New water ride for CP

Did you all see what Dollywood is putting in? This would be a great fit for CP!

While I agree that CP needs a great and dynamic dark ride, I just dont see it any time in the near (or far) future. The current state of Six Flags is really going affect current cap ex. Dollywood is spending $50 million on this ride as part of the $500 million investment in the park and resorts. Having just moved from Northern Ohio down to East Tennessee and really seeing the difference in the guest experience between both CP and DW, its just been a reflection on how far CP has fallen in recent years under Zimmerman. I was in the park for the NightFlight Expedition announcement. Dollywood is clearly a park that is thriving and Cedar Point is in survival mode as the cash cow under Six Flags.

Agreed with you there. Zimmerman really tanked CP and sadly I don’t see it getting better anytime soon.

Oh how I miss the Ouimet days.

I'd like to see something like that ride at CP, but I agree it probably isn't in the cards anytime soon.

I usually don't hesitate to criticize CP when I see something not as I think it should be, but I think saying that CP is tanked is a big stretch. I'd argue that the ride lineup and the park itself in terms of being a nice place in general is just about at its peak or maybe just off of it. In the past few years, the boardwalk area has been greatly improved as well as the area where Siren's Curse sits. We've gotten two major coasters and two major food venues added in the last five years.

Where I have concerns is in the availability of attractions. Whether it's bad procedures, slow employees, less staffing, or maintenance downtime, the throughput on rides is not what it used to be. Combine that with an overabundance of Fastlane use and it is just difficult to get the same number of rides in a day as I did 10-20 years ago. But in comparison to Dollywood, I'd be willing to bet the average B&M at CP puts through more riders per hour than Wild Eagle and I'd be willing to bet Steel Vengeance puts through more riders in an hour, day, and season than Lightning Rod. Dollywood is a great place, but they aren't known for lightning quick operations either and I think they still have a long way to go to catch up to even Cedar Point let alone a place like Universal or Disney. Lines might be shorter at Dollywood than CP, but it's more due to the different demographic mix of the guests. Dollywood might have 6,000 people (many of them qualifying for AARP) sitting in a show at any given time where as at CP those people are in ride lines and in general are a lot younger.

Dollywood does shine compared to CP when it comes to Live E as they have multiple large indoor venues with full production shows all throughout the season. At CP, they seem to have eliminated most of the larger venues and the size of the productions is smaller as well. I do think this is a mistake, but they've made the choice to not focus on the grandparent demographic like Dollywood has. There's also barely any entertainment during May, early June, late August, and early September.

I certainly appreciate what both parks have to offer and I'll admit as I get older, I appreciate some of the things parks like Dollywood do to round out the experience much more than I used to. That doesn't mean CP is a dump. There are some things they could improve or restore to the way they used to be, but I think my feelings are just as much a reflection of changes in myself as they are of the park going downhill. Maybe others that have been around here a long time are kind of in the same boat.

I dont think anyone here said Cedar Point has tanked or is a dump. And Im not comparing ride ops or Live E between the 2 parks. Both parks has different targe markets and that is who they are targeting. Cedar Point will always have superior coaster capacity and excel in dispatch times. Dollywood will always thrive in entertainment and more of a family element. I was just commenting on the overall perception of deferred maintenance and general lack of up keep of the park. Cedar Point cant lose 10% of its full time workforce without it showing up in operations and overall guest experience.

Cedar Point is still an amazing place and one of my favorite places on earth. Its just slipped in my perspective compared to parks like Dollywood. I hold Zimmerman and his leadership accountable for the decline. Its clear Zimmerman had been cutting costs to build up free cash for this merger with Six Flags that he wanted so bad.

Found the new water ride Cedar Point can get! Great location for it and something Cedar Point needs. And it's an Intamin flume.

Wait a second...

Interesting but I think cedar point will want to stay away from intamin flume rides.

Oh definitely

I notice that the boat in that ride is already a rescue boat with life savers already attached. Might come in handy. Intamin is learning to design in safety. No need for rescue if the whole raft is a rescue boat!

Plenty of lifeguards at the ready to fly in for a rescue. Or, march in.
