New Sand Bar?

Hello, I apologize if this has been discussed. I looked through the forum and couldn't find anything on the new sand bar that opened on the beach.

How is the new bar? Any opinions out there yet.

Thank you

Dave

It's great that they have an outdoor bar out there, even though it's on the smaller side. I think the Surf Lounge is a better bar atmosphere, but the outdoor bar is a good place to just stop and grab a drink if you're hanging on the beach. With that said, when I was there on Coastermania weekend, there were no visible drink menus highlighting signature drinks or anything, which I thought could have been a nice improvement. They may have since improved it, but I think highlighting some of their cocktails would be nice. Overall, a really solid addition though.

Do not, under any circumstances, order a Manhattan. You've been warned.

Otherwise it's a typical hotel bar - on the expensive side, not a large selection, but convenient.

Edited to add - there's also live music throughout the day and into the night. There's a very exciting atmosphere out there these days.

Have you ever had a glass of vermouth?

Because I have...

Yikes.

I play it safe and just order beers from there because I'm usually sitting on the beach and 16 Oz of liquid for $7.50 is a better bargain. If I'm at the tables or doing something else, maybe a double captain and coke zero will do.

Yeah, that's solid strategery.

And maybe I'm naive, but I was surprised that a double was exactly double in price compared to a single. I guess I need to get out more. Made for an awkward conversation with the bartender.

Me: Say there, my good man! (I'm paraphrasing) How much for a double Makers, neat?
Him: (heads to POS console to look it up) That's $9.
Me: Wow, for a double?
Him: No, that's for one.
Me: How much for a double?
Him: (stares at me blankly for a few seconds) ...$18.
Me: Right, of course, obviously! I'll take a double I guess.

I think even hotel bars give breaks on doubles, but again, maybe I need to get out more.

Hmm, that's weird. We've paid around $12 for doubles every time, I believe.

I don't think he knew what he was doing.

It may have been $8/$16, but it definitely wasn't $12 for a double.

A new featured cocktail called the Make Me Whole?

Bartender listens to whining for 10 minutes, offers you a free water and walks away.

You want a Manhattan? Come to my house and allow my husband to do the honors. He’s got the knack.
Evan Williams single barrel bourbon -or- Rabbit Hole rye, your choice. 2 parts.
Campari Antica vermouth. 1 part.
Dashes of bitters (what flavor would you like?)
1 or 2 Luxardo cherries
I bar spoonful of Luxardo cherry juice

I don’t drink the brown likka myself, but everyone dies over these. And sorry, he will not be working at Cedar Point. (I just asked)

Thank you everyone! I will be there the week of July 30th. Hopefully I will run into a few pointbuzz folks at the the Sand bar and Surf lounge. :)

The Sand Bar and Surf Lounge now have a list of signature cocktails. Some new selections on there from last year's cocktails.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

I donated at the blood drive at Castaway Bay a week or two ago, and this was the banner of the thank you e-mail I got last night. I had no idea the point of donating was to help out guest services. I hope I gave enough.

You're welcome ;)

The addition of sandbar is amazing. The view is beautiful and just what was needed for the boardwalk. Now if only the long islands can be made with tequila like it’s supposed to be, then it is a solid choice in my opinion.

Muffleheads is the only spot that makes them how they’re supposed to be: gin, tequila, vodka, rum, triple sec, a little sour mix, splash of coke

I agree the Sand Bar is a very nice addition and we have spent quite a bit of time out there. What drives me inside to the Surf Lounge is the Toes in the Sand Band. The music is just to loud. You cant even carry on a conversation with the person next to you. That is a comment I have heard from a lot of people. I wish the Live E Department would tone them down. The late evening entertainment is much better and more enjoyable to be at the Sand Bar.

I wonder if they've changed the "late night entertainment" since when we stayed last month. Or maybe our definition of "late" is different. Because when we stayed in a lake view room at Breakers, the music was quite audible in our room, with doors, windows, and drapes shut and both AC units cranking, until sometime after 10PM. And the band, and presumably their speakers, were facing away from us. It seemed just absurdly, unnecessarily loud for that hour.

I think if not for being flat-out exhausted from the long days, our young kids may have had issues falling asleep.

I was out there last night and the volume at the Sand Bar seemed very reasonable. The only thing on the beach that was all that loud was the DJ, which is to be expected.

I was there as well last night sitting up at the bar. The 3 piece jazz band is good and enjoyable although not something I would expect on a beach setting. Its the Toes in the Sand Band that is just plain too loud. We are either inside while the Toes in the Sand band plays or we wait for them to finish their set for the evening.

I’ve noticed that a lot of Cedar Point’s shows are just too loud, not in a “get off my lawn” kind of day but the volume is too much for the sound system and venue. Makes it sound like crap.
