New ride question

So is it like delerium or does it go vertical or past vertical (looping) or what?

JuggaLotus's avatar

It's the same as Delerium

sorry can't view video's on this computer, its to old

Every detail I have seen indicates that maXair will be pretty much identical to Kings Island's Delerium. That means it goes past horizontal, but about 60 degrees short of vertical at the top of the swing. At the peak of the swing, riders will be at approximately the same angle with regard to the ground as riders on the first turnaround on Millennium Force.

Which is to say, more upside-down than they are at the top of Mantis' inclined loop, but there is no need to beat that dead horse again.

Did maXair beat any records? It's only taller than Delirium by 3 feet...

The 3 feet, I believe anyway, is just a rounding difference. The Huss rides are just cookie cutters (like just about all flat rides). So all Frisbees are the same, all Giant Top-Spins are the same, etc..

They do offer some themeing differences, but the dimensions of the ride (speed, height, footprint) are the same from ride to ride. This does have its advantages, because if you have a space that is X by Y feet, you can fit the ride in, there is no custom designing like there would be for a coaster, so costs can come down because there isn't that extra engineering cost.

It is, but I believe that the disc rotates in the opposite direction.

Correct, Delirium is in a counter-clockwise direction whereas maXair will be in a clockwise direction. Huss says that the spin direction can be changed I wonder if this has to be "hardwired" in or if it will be on the control panel, so that it can be randomized as to which direction each ride will go.

I'd guess the motor is one direction only. What would be the since of being two ways when it only goes one? If it was radomized I don't see how it would make the ride any better or worse. People would probably never notice it. I know there's a Giant Frisbee in Japan, Nagashima Spaland I believe. Does anybody know what direction that one spins?

I agree with Gomez, I'm guessing that it would only spin one way. To me it doesn't matter which way it spins.

Who cares? Cedar Point doesn't have to break a record with every single ride.

It appears that a part of the concession stand will serve as the mechanical room, and it's physically right next to the foundations. I would theorize that means shorter hoses to the floor, which I would think means it'll raise faster. That would account for shaving a few seconds off of the dispatch interval.

huh?

I think a random rotation would be neat, but no worries.

Smoking Marijuana isn't a bad thing or even a good one, like everything else, its what you make of it.

One more random thought... I don't think you can really appreciate just how huge the top of the pendulum is (where the six drive motors are).

Methinks you might see photos of it very soon... ;)

Very true Jeff, I watched a show on the Discovery, I think it was Ultimate Thrill Rides and Delirium was on and it showed the motors. The whole structure and motors are so huge. I think that we will all be surprised on how big it actually is when we go to the park and see it for ourselves.

Not as surprised as you'd be to stand next to it on the ground.

Can't wait to see em Jeff, I did rather enjoy the "site prep" photos. They provided a good bearing for where this will be and the size of the footprint.

I like watching Delirium at PKI. I've been on it twice and it is a sweet ride. It's funny. When you look at Delirium in motion, it appears to be rotating rather quickly. But, when you actually get on, the rotating is much slower than it appeared. This will be an awesome addition to CP.
