New policy for not-busy coasters!

Yesterday morning I noticed something different about Gemini and Mean Streak. I didn't have the opportunity to see if this also affected Mine Ride, Corkscrew, or Blue Streak. But early in the day when Gemini and Mean Streak were begging for riders, several cars were roped off, as usual.

The odd bit is that the *last* car of the train was *open*. I stopped at the Park Ops office to express my support for the new policy, and was informed that yes, it is a policy change that has happened in the past month.

I'm almost surprised I didn't see anything about it here...

In the park op office...

Jeff: Hi, I'd like to make a comment.
Park Official: OK, what is it about?
Jeff: Oh, just give me the Althoff form, I'm sure it's on there.

Just kidding Dave! Seriously, this sounds like a good plan to me. Of course if you're tight with someone on a less popular ride, you can get hooked up with repeat rides in the back seat. ;)

Finally! It's nice to know that CP is recognizing back seat goodness.

Although that's a bit sadistic on MS. =)
Not if you like those bumps!!!

Everyone loves the bump in the back, bump in the front, and the jerk behind the wheel on Paddlewheel.;)

I noticed when my husband and I went last week they had certain seats roped off on Mean Streak,Mine Ride and corkscrew.I was wondering why they did that or if it meant those lapbars were unoperatable.

Orange tape means they are broken. Closed queue (chained) means that they are closed so that the ride doesn't get stuck on the lift. Notice that queues are never closed on the B&Ms and Intamins.

Sometimes we will close off seats with orange tape that aren't broken, but to keep people from riding in those cars. It all depends on the operators.

A big reason behind cutting capacity is the need to close seat belts and lap bars on empty seats...an operation that can take long enough to set up a train. You won't see that on Iron Dragon or Disaster Transport because on those rides the bars pop open automagically on all seats. CP tends to cut capacity by closing seats instead of removing trains because it takes a lot longer to transfer a train on or off than it does to drop a chain in the station. --Dave Althoff, Jr.
LOL Magnum, I personaly thought that was pretty funny on the pattlwheel excursions ride. But to the topic. Finaly CP has realized that you need to have the back car open if the ride is not busy and you are closing off seats. On certain rides the back is just so much better.
