Tony & Tyler take a road trip to kick off the 2009 season at sister park Kings Island. Click here for youtube video.
Edit: fixed link
So I had to watch the vid without sound (for now, due to being at work), but I guess that dude and chick were the Facebook postcard contest winners??
Anyway, seeing that CP Platinum Pass looked creepy as someone who's only seen a Kings Island PP before!!
They sure did stick with the no on-ride footage. I thought they would secure a camera so we could see their reaction.

It looked weird for me too because I am stuck with a KI pass. I was like "oh, so thats what this years pass looks like."
Peace, Mikey

The camera rig was taken off the ride just before they arrived. I have no idea why. It was the strangest media event I've been to.

I know! Who woulda thought that those in marketing would stoop so low as to do their job?
In the past they've given us actual behind the scenes stuff or extra interesting info. This time they just told us there was a new roller coaster, barely gave any footage of it, and then told us to buy a platinum pass. If they want people to watch a 5 minute advertisement, they need to put some actual content in there.

Uh oh... The natives are restless...
In all honesty. It's a podcast meant for promoting the park, and also giving an occasional behind the scenes look at things... This time it happened to promote Platinum Passes. Like an earlier poster said... It's marketing.

I have never seen so many whiny bitches. Seriously. You people who stalk the Webcams and visit the park a hundred times a season aren't the target audience for their marketing efforts anyway. It's not for you.

Whiny bitches! I love it, I enjoyed the video, and it was nice to see the winners of one of the contest.

I assume that was aimed at me since I was the only one who complained. The OnPoint Blog is also a marketing tool, but they've given us some very good info and behind the scenes looks, such as how TTD is operated. Even the previous PointCasts have been decent, showing stuff on Maverick construction. Sure, all of their "media" will have some advertising aspect to it, but this was so blatant and lacked any real content that it wasn't even worth watching. For some reason you're trying to nail me for saying that. If you enjoyed watching stock footage of a roller coaster and two very articulate teenagers talking about it, that's fine, but personally I was hoping for more.
And really, trying to insult us by saying we "stalk the webcams"? We're ALL on a Cedar Point forum, after all.
It wasn't directed at anyone in particular, but hey, if the shoe fits. All you've said is that other installments were vaguely "decent," which doesn't mean anything. And really, if that didn't have any "content," what exactly was all of that Diamondback video, and the interviews with riders and contest winners? It looked remarkably like content to me.
I thought it was fun. Got some solid opinions on Diamondback too.

I wasn't vague. I said that they gave some looks at the Maverick construction. I talked about how the OnPoint blog went through the TTD operating procedures. I can add more, if you're interested, but I wasn't particularly vague.
I also talked about the Diamondback video, and how it wasn't anything special. They could have done much better than a couple shots of the first drop, the splashdown and a turnaround. How about a POV or actually talking about and analyzing the layout?
The interviews also weren't very good.
"So are you excited for your first ride on Diamondback??"
"Uhh yeah we're pretty excited."
"What did you think??"
"It was.. It was awesome. Just... crazy"
In depth interviews, for sure.
All I was trying to say was that it looked like a half assed attempt (in terms of content) to plug their Platinum Pass, and everyone here was talking about it, so I gave my opinion, which apparently people didn't like.
It isn't really about what we think about it. It is more about what the general public will think about it, and I think the average Joe watching it would have enjoyed it.
^^what do you expect them to say? They commented that there was a lot of airtime. Are you really looking for "On the third camel back you get some great air when sitting in row 12. I also caught a great view of The Beast at the 1:28 mark in the ride."

I know a lot of people that go to Cedar Point, and few (if any) of them are even aware of the PointCast and OnPoint blog. The people who are going to see this stuff are a step up from the average visitor. You're right, the video is probably fine for the average visitor, but that's not who they've been catering to. They've put the focus on more "advanced" users. People who want to know how the rides operate, who follow ride construction, watch the webcams, and freak out whenever there is a teaser for a possible new ride or construction. In terms of what they've delivered in the past, it's a step down. That's all I'm saying.
Ok, the girl did say there was airtime, but the rest of the two interviews were awful. They could have said what the ride was actually like instead of repeating it was "awesome" twice. How insightful.
They could have told us more about the ride. If it actually is an airtime coaster. Speeds, drops, how it compares to other rides in the park. Some actually decent footage.
Believe me, I don't spend my time critiquing OnPoint podcasts. My point is this: it didn't give as much info as we've come to expect from their updates. It's beyond me why you guys are so intent on arguing with me about this 5 minute video. I said in the beginning that it seemed like a giant advertisement and I was called a whiny bitch.
