I know it's just supposed to be a representation... but it looks like the map has the canyon and the heartline roll mixed up.
Dollywood's map is out of proportion, and at Hersheypark, the park map butchers Storm Runner's layout. It's really nothing new.

Seeing the new park map really draws out the problems with locating the Giant Blue Cigarettes.
3 are pretty evenly spaced around the back "loop"
The 2 for the front of the park are both on the same side of the park and fairly close together though. That just seems kinda retarded and would have made more sense to have one on each side of the park. Especially since Game Day Grill is right there, and having a spot for the smokers to go in between beers would have been nice (without having to walk all the way across the park).
Anyway, my rant is done. I think there are enough spots, just the location could have been thought out a little bit better.

Maybe getting something on the new ride wrong is the "signature"/"style"/"in joke" of the artist? Something he does just for fun.

Does it really matter? People don't use the maps to see what the ride layout is. There are a lot of things wrong with every map they make. Who cares.
Favorite Coasters 1.MF 2. TTD 3. Raptor 4. Gemini 5. Magnum
Maverick perhaps? I wanna RIDE ON.
There's more than that wrong with the layout.
- There's a curve missing after the first canyon.
- There's a canyon shown after the bunny hill. :)
- After the track passes under the first drop, it's shown going under the first half of the course. It really goes over the first half of the course.
- The train is shown as a six car train. We all know its a three car train.
- The station is all kinds of messed up.
- The lift hill is too steep.
- Almost all the supports are wrong.
- There's no big ugly fence by the railroad tracks. :)
The lesson here? The park map is an artist's interpretation of the park. It's not meant to be a technical drawing. I've always loved their park maps like this and used to collect them when I was a kid. It was my one souvenir I'd buy every summer.
I dont think that the map is designed to show every feature to its exact specifications, as long as the guests in the park no where the rides are they are generally happy...this year no one should have any trouble finding Soak City, the logo is massive!!!
I don't like this style of map illustration. I know it's supposed to scream, "FUN!" and not be intimidating for guests to use, but somehow I prefer the old school of park maps that were more accurate and realistic in their representations.

I was thinking, if they could, use actual satellite images for the maps and mark where everything is. I can see that being very hard to find a satellite image updating every year.

I like the map the way it is, but I suppose they could have an additional map per requests that shows a more realistic view. Its not difficult to get satellite pictures, there are companies that specialize in this.
@ Jugga - There is also a smoking section over by Raptor's exit.
I had no trouble finding the smoking areas on the map, and frankly, I think they did a good job in placement now that I see them, at least from a parent's or non-coaster rider's POV.
They've got areas by Raptor, MF, Maverick, TTD (well, between TTD and Camp Snoopy) and WT/maXair/DT Most are situated in areas where a non-thrill-riding smoker might want to sit and wait for others who are riding the coasters that might have the longest lines.
I'd rather die living than live like I'm dead
If you showed every detail of the park map it would be as big as an Ohio Traveling Map. Another thing would be it could be as a big as the maps you can buy for a like a $1.00. Maverick isn't the only one. If you look closely Iron Dragon is missing a couple turns.
I like a map like this.
http://maverick.cedarpoint.com/facts/frontiertown/
Yea, I know it's not very colorful or exciting, but it's accurate, the scale is correct and things are easily labeled. It's more like a blueprint than a cartoon, and I think easier to look at. CP probably keeps a construction/engineering map of this type updated for the record, and that's likely where they got it for the Frontier Town page, thinking it had an old-timey look.
I seem to remember, and I'm talkin years ago, that CP's map was in this format. When I saw it on the Maverick page I had hope that it would return. Well.... guess not.
I'm the oldest one here. CP emp '73-'74
I like that kind of map, and it would have been cool to have those, just for this year, to fit with the whole theme of Maverick. But CP has been going with the cartoon version for a long time and as long as no body complains about accuracy, I doubt they're going to change it anytime soon.
-Adam G- The OG Dragster nut
I'm with you on that Adam. The only thing I would change would Be Dragster. They make Dragster look like it's 1,000 feet tall and stretches like a rubberband. They still have the spoiler on the back of the trains in the drawings as well. Other then that I love the cartoon map.
^They just want the best ride to stick out more. :)
