New Music

I haven't been to CP yet, but I keep hearing about different types of music throughout the park. I try to have an open mind about accepting new things and I realize that different people have different tastes, but I get the feeling that a majority of the music is being replaced.

I get that they might want to find a more contemporary outlet for the feel on the midways, but I don't see why they changed the Starlight Experience music-- doesn't that sort of defeat the purpose? Isn't Luminosity supposed to incorporate the contemporary music like it was implied in the presentation?

I'm not saying I'm against the new music, I'd just like to discuss the changes and hear your opinions.

Has the music changed in TTD, MF, Johnny Rockets, Soak City, etc..?

As far as I could tell, Starlight is not in "full swing" yet. I think they just had the lights on to have them on.

As for the rest of the music throughout the park, I think it's a good change. I'm no fan of contemporary music, but then I was never a huge fan of most of what they played in the past either. I think most guests will appreciate the newer music over the endless loops of Beach Boys and B-52's.

So is the traditional ride music gone as well, like "Ready to Go" on TTD, 80's on Magnum, country on Maverick, etc., or is this just midway music that has changed?

lol I think I'm going to slightly miss hearing Love Shack around Cedar Point...it was a running joke after so many years.

There is new music throughout the park. They purchased a new control system this year to work with Luminosity. I personally think its nice to have an updated and more contempary soundrack, though I may not personally like all the songs. They have also gotten new versions of the National Anthem and God Bless America.

Starlight is no longer what it was, it is evolving along with Luminosity. Opening day is a good example of what it will end up being but there is still tweaking going on. And it does not have a dedicated soundtrack anymore, you just hear the park music on the trail now.

Well the fact that Starlight doesn't have a dedicated soundtrack bums me out. I loved the music through there and I always thought it went with the lights very well.

However I am excited to hear about the updated music over all.

Is the sound system/quality actually improved, or are they simply playing different music through the horrific speakers? I realize the system was replaced on the main midway, but what about the rest of the park?

The main midway has a great sound system now, all new and it sounds excellent. The rest of the park has the same speakers.

As far as the music selection, I hate it and it grinds on you after awhile. I don't mind some contemporary music, and the music they play would certainly fit in well during the street party after Luminosity, but they need to mix it up some during the day.

Listening to track after track of contemporary music that I couldn't remotely tell you what it was, Love Shack or Brown Eyed Girl would actually be a welcome change.

I'm just glad that on Sunday the frontier trail had its music, because on Saturday it was playing the same soundtrack as the rest of the park. Something about that area plus a hip hop remix just doesn't fit. :)

Please tell me the oldies are still being played along the beach by the hotels! It just fits the area so well.

Changes like the music can have such a huge impact on the atmosphere of certain areas of the park. Halloweekends especially, walking around hearing anything other than "Halloween music", while looking at all the decorations throughout the park during the day, definitely takes away from the atmosphere.

Country music, like they played in previous years, is what frontier trail/town need for that area to be pulled all together. Anything other than that will feel so out of place with its surroundings.

Frontiertown and Frontier Trail had a new mix of contemporary country music. We didn't hear any music around the beach and Breakers, only whatever was coming off WindSeeker, so perhaps it is tied to Soak City's sound.

Cedar Fair parks on the whole can have mixed attitudes about music. On the whole they tend to go with assorted pop music regardless of theme or setting outside of children's areas, although Cedar Point at least puts country music in the Frontier areas. Currently the Ghost Town area of Knott's, probably the most immersive and "authentic" of any Cedar Fair frontier area, is featuring a heavy rotation of decidedly non-frontier pop music. The only theme they seem interested in maintaining is "fun" when it comes to the music.

I liked the new music on the main midway. I never liked the park's main midway music before it was changed, it got old. The rides' line areas still seem to be the same. Playing Magnum 80s, techno mixes for MF, etc. I like that they kept those :) I am also glad I didnt hear brown eyed girl anymore, that song I dislike and it gets stuck in my head for hours on end for some reason.

"Sha la la la la la la la la la la te da".....Dangit....pretty sure that sticks in everyone's head. :)

In my opinion, CP has been good with music selection/placement in the past few years. They play 50s/60s music at Johnny Rockets, 80s music at the Magnum queue, 90s music at Raptor queue, and "new millennium music" in the MF queue, western music, Maverick's soundtrack, Starlight Experience-- my point is, it's a good balance of music.

I thought Luminosity was going to introduce the new music (and maybe spill over into the WT/maXair midway.) That would have been fine. I'm just worried that they do something like replace the Beach Boys at Soak City with Nikki Manaj or Lil Wayne or something like that. It sounds crazy but it wouldn't surprise me if they did that.

I know I said this before, but as a 17-year-old, I'm not at all against the new music. I'm just concerned with this mentality of "out with the old, in with the new" regarding the music selection. I guess I won't fully judge until I actually go. All the other changes look amazing.

I agree with JW... I love the atmosphere that the music creates during Halloweekends.

I think that CP does a good job mixing up the spooky music through-out the weekends, and hope for more of that!

I loose count of how many time I hear Thriller durning halloweekends. There are a lot of good halloween songs that one seems over played durning HW.. it could just be because im there every weekend.

I wish CP sold soundtrack CDs at the gift shops of compilations of songs heard at the park.

I would so totally get them if they did. It would help keep the park in your mind during the cold off-season

That's disapointing. I liked the starlight music.

I think that new music has been needed for a while. I like contemporary music more than what used to be played on the midways. It will definitely liven the atmospshere of the park, in my opinion.

I have mixed opinions about the park switching to modern music, but God Bless America (who sang the park version?) was once of the worst renditions I have ever heard. It almost sounded like a man was singing through the bad speakers on the main midway. I forget where, but a few years back, a park played Whitney's version of the Star Spangled Banner.
