I just joined this site and wanted to say hello to all the existing members. I enjoy your interesting discussions!
I have a long history with Cedar Point, which started with my grandfather, Emile Legros. He was Chairman and CEO of the Point from the late 50's thru to his death in 1975. As such, I grew up with the Point and have witnessed its many changes over the years.
I worked at CP on the Shoot-the-Rapids ride in 1977-1978. A lot has changed since then.
Perhaps I will be able to add to your future discussions. Best to all.
WOW! Welcome to PointBuzz! In the time that I've been here I don't think that I've seen anyone that has lineage to anyone who ran the park! I hope to read your insights around the board.
EDIT: I see you're living in Orlando as well! I just moved here and I'm currently working for Disney, and Universal is on the board for the near future as well.

Welcome, Rapids!!!
I can't wait to read your posts. You can probably answer a lot of questions, assuming they pertain to your time of service
Yes, I was at CP in June with my brothers for a family reunion. We all had a great time. Maverick was as much fun as we had hoped it would be!
Yes, welcome Rapids! It's great that you have spent some time getting to know the site. Alot of people don't take the time, & subsequently, recieve a few zingers for their lack of effort.
I wish we still had Rapids (or any flume) at the park. What things did you see at the park at your visit that you liked/disliked as far as changes since you grandfather was at the helm?
randi <><
Peace Love Hope
It is interesting to hear about the history your family has to Cedar Point.
My grandmother used to take me to the point, and tell me stories of the "pre-ride" days of Cedar Point...she always missed the ballrooms, the dancing, the music...
I am not old enough to be familiar with the Shoot-the-Rapids ride, but like you, you'll find that many of us "grew up" with Cedar Point and have watched it change over the years.
Hope you enjoy your stay!
:)

In response to Grief, I too think that a flume ride should be added back to the park. They are family friendly. It was always nice to see parents and kids seated together on Shoot-the-Rapids and having a ball. Perhaps they will add one back in the near future.
My grandfather was always big on making sure Cedar Point was family oriented. Although thrill rides were certainly added during his tenure, he always made sure to balance it with some more family friendly attractions, such as Frontier Trail (which is a ghost of its former self), Jungle Larry's Safari Island, or even his last big project - the Cedar Point Cinema. That was significant in its day, as it was one of the few Imax theaters in the country. That change to a skating show, although again family friendly, is the one that bothers me the most, as he was very proud of getting the Cinema (although he died before it opened!)
CP has done a great job of adapting to what the market wants, which is what any successful company must do. I just hope they never lose that magic that, although its hard to specify, permeates that peninsula.
