I would also probably imagine that this would aid them in the construction aspect to help ensure that each section of track is lined up properly. If the white lines don't match, then something may be off.
Maybe this is to help attach some kind of effect to the track - water shots, smoke, bandits tying down helpless women?

I agree. It's incredible to me how they pour all of those footers and lay all of the supports ahead of time and everything still lines up perfectly. They have some very intelligent people engineering those coasters. Since they're able to do that, I don't think getting lines painted on track exactly where wheels will run would be too much of a problem.

I don't think the white (or whatever color) lines have anything to do with lining up the track. That's what the guide holes and "nipples" are for on the end of each track piece as seen here: http://pointbuzz.com/Gallery.aspx?i=3992
See the July 26th update thread for my explanation of how the bottom of the supports are lined up. That's where the play is in alignment.
