Is it just me or is it everytime you get into a dicussion about Cedar Point with other people and they say something untrue like, Gemini is a wooden roller coaster and then you say no actually its a steel coaster with wooden suports.
This always happens with my friend and I. He also has season passes to Cedar Point and says he knows everything about Cedar Point. So we talk about the roller coasters and stuff and then the Gemini fight starts...
He says wood, I say steel, I even took him to CP's website and took him to the Gemini page and he still doesnt belive me.
Does this ever happen to anyone else?

Yes, Nick...it happens to me and my friends all the time...they think they "know it all", and when you shown them clear evidence that they are wrong, they don't believe it! The Gemini coaster thing happens to me all the time :)
Hugs.

Same thing here Magnum2G3. That is true for me 99% of the time.

Whenever I start talking about rollercoasters, people start thinking I'm weird. So I try no to talk about them, except to people who appreciate them!

I'll take Roller Coasters for $200 Alex!
The same thing goes for me Cedar Creek. The only person I do talk to about coasters knows more than me so there are usually no arguments.

All the bloody time this happens. Also their is the one coaster (which I cant think of the name) that is steel supported and has wooden track. I wonder how many people confuse this as a steel coaster.

Villain at Six Flags Ohio has a steel structure with wooden track, and I believe Great White at Morey's Pier in NJ is the same. I think MegaZeph at Jazzland in New Orleans has a steel structure as well, but I'm not sure. I've only seen Villain in person, and I think it actually looks more like a wooden coaster than a steel one, since actual steel coasters' supports are thicker and less numerous. Villain, to me, almost looks like a wooden coaster painted metallic. ;)
Jeff: Outside of roller coaster-related message boards, newsgroups, and whatnot, I don't even refer to wooden coasters as "woodies". I mean, anyone who doesn't see that coming from a mile away deserves being laughed at.

How dare you vanquish the Steel Phantom without his consent? Fear the Phantom's Revenge.
Why is it that Gemini always causes the woodie/steel argument but never Mine Ride?
I have a teacher that's convinced that Blue Streak runs backwards.
Cedar Creek Mine Ride, same here.
Whenever I actually talk about woodies with my friends, they laugh at first, then I giver them a serious look at they shut up.
I personally call them wooden roller coasters, takes longer but as I say never leave yourself open to be made fun of by "Friends" now on to the subject of Gemini. see no way anybody can say it is wooden. Next time you get in to an argument with a friend say this, "If you gave Millennium Force, Magnum, or Raptor wooden supports would they be wooden roller coasters too?" If they say yes then I suggest you find new friends. :)

Remember, line jumping is NOT a sporting event!
Wouldn't Gemeni be a hybred coaster?

Millennium Force - world's first and greatist gigacoaster!
Coasters are classified by the type of track they have, not the support structure. Gemini has tubular steel track, just like Corkscrew or Magnum, that's why it's a steel coaster. Villain at Six Flags Ohio, has laminated wood track. That's why it's a wooden coaster despite the fact that the supporting structure is steel.

Before I actually rode Gemini, I did not exactly know what people meant by "Steel coaster with wood supports." Having seen and ridden it for myself, it's pretty obvious.
I think the confusion comes mainly from the fact that Gemini's layout is so similar to any other double out and back wood coaster. If you were to just look at a picture, you would swear it was a wood racer, unless you knew better.

Only 2290?les from Cedar Po!nt
I had an argument in line for Batman at SFO one day, because a 'know it all' thought the midcourse block brake was there to 'reduce forces so you weren't crushed alive'
When I told him it was so three trains could operate on one track, and that the brakes didn't need to be turned on, he jumped down my back like crazy.
And Gemini is a woodie is a classic.
Its stupid("Know It All") people like that, that really get on my nerves.
O yeah and Magnum IS really sinking. Really, I heard that from a friend who's dad's cousin works with Cedar Point Inc. And he says they are replacing it with a 450 ft. wooden stand up inverted coaster with 30 inversions.

Gravity knows no force like Millennium Force!
Why does this controversy always surround Gemini and not the Cedar Creek Mine Ride???

Probably because Gemini is bigger and more well known than CCMR.

Gemini LOOKS more like a wooden coaster, in type as well as in structure than the CCMR, honestly.
Soggy is absolutely right, if you just look at the Gemini it looks like any other wooden double-out-and-back. Most GP aren't going to notice the track differences in a wooden coaster & a steel coaster. The CCMR on the other hand is more spread out, and while I've certainly *heard* people call it a wooden coaster, they're less apt to argue if you tell them that it's really steel.
Monster Ride Op is also right - more people KNOW about the Gemini than about the CCMR so they are going to talk about it more. It's a combination of any of these things that leads to people's misinformed arguments.
