Cedar Point holds "Music in the Parks" every year on opening day... WHY? The park is always busy enough for us hardcore fans going through major coaster with drawl symptoms without a thousand people marching around in uniforms taking our places in line, and making our wait in line from 10 minutes to 45 minutes. It's nice that they have the "Music in the Parks," but on opening day, really?

It's one of those "we always do it so why change it" kind of things. First the Kinzel speech then the band plays.
In my experience with Opening Day I don't see the band as a major line problem. Its usually ride breakdowns and slow/learning ride crews that make the wait longer.

Speaking of slow learning employees, food service on the first day is completely ridiculous...

I usually skip opening day. If I don't skip it, I don't get to the park until almost 5pm and stay overnight for the slower 2nd day of the season.
With the bands, season pass lines, and things generally not being up to snuff on the first day, I get to avoid the usual headaches.
^ I talked about two problems from opening day! How does that equal out to opening day "sucking so much?"

If the festivities of Cedar Point's opening day are such that the entertainment package offered does not meet or exceed the threshold by which you determine what is or is not worth your money, don't patronize the amusement park at that time, and instead choose another time when said value does exceed your threshold.
Better?
It's not a complex equation - either opening day is worth your time, or it ain't.
I suppose, in examining your original post, you're simply curious as to why Cedar Point chooses to have those festivities on opening day. The answer is, of course, because it's opening day.

^ Music in the park? is that the marching band? I didnt know they called it that.
I was there every opening day, and never had a problem with the band. They never came near or in the rides' lines, last time I checked.
Its only in the morning anyway. If that's what you are referring to.....
I think he's referring to the fact that those band members also ride the attractions (*gasp*), which forces him to wait longer than 10 minutes to ride.
The horror.

This is what my question is. Why have such a big event on opening day when the park is already going to be filled the way it is without Music in the Parks.
And no, Music in the Parks is not just the Ohio State Marching Band. I'm not even sure if the Ohio State Marching Band is part of Music in the Parks or not, but Music in the Parks is where who knows how many choirs and bands come from all around to take part in a giant competition at Cedar Point and other festivals and theme parks. Perhaps one should research a topic before speaking of a topic.

Cedar Point hosts Music in the Parks just about every weekend in May, if I remember correctly. Saturday is the best day to do these events because there is no school and families can come and support their kids too and make a day out of it.
The event on opening day is not even that big - at most around 2,000 people with the kids and their families combined. Then, opening day overall is typically not much busier than a Saturday in mid-summer - if the weather is perfect.
I don't understand exactly what the complaint is here seeing that this event brings a lot of early season business to Cedar Point and doesn't come close to completely taking over the park or anything. Plus, it gives kids recognition for their choral/band accomplishments.
You could simply go a different day if you think it is too busy, or just go on a nice Saturday during HalloWeekends if you really want to see busy.

'Busy' does not even begin to describe a HalloWeekends Saturday...
