Looks like we're in for a real "treat" for CoasterMania! ;)

I remember CM '99 was the worst year EVER for muffleheads.OMG they were everywhere!! I remember there were tons of them in the potato salad and the beans during lunch -blech! You had to scrape off your food before you ate it too. I remember going into the restroom and literally the ceiling was crawling with muffleheads and the sinks were full of them.
Every CM since then they haven't been too terrible bad, hoping this article isn't forewarning us it's going to be another 1999! :(
I recommend NOT wearing a white t-shirt, black will work best to conceal all the squished bodies! :)
see ya there! :)

It's all about getting around the barrels, or over the fences, right leads, no faults, fastest time and looking pretty when done. What's so hard about that?
YUCK! Still better than the mayflies. I hate it when they do the mass suicide thing on the side of the buildings...or is that their empty shells when they molt? Either way they're nasty!! But if you look at the date on that link you sent it was two years ago. I was there on 07 and I don't remember any big bug swarms.
I'll be riding near the back on every ride. There might be bugs on some of you mugs...
stopping now.

Mayflies and Muffleheads are two different bugs. Mayflies have large wings and do the "shed the skin" thing leaving a dry carcass behind. Muffleheads, also known as midges, look like big mosquitos and have a fluffy head (hence the "muffle" head term).

I'd rather die living than live like I'm dead
I remember a year or two ago they all got caught in the lights near MaXair and started to burn. The lights are angled up towards the ride, and the bugs were attracted to the light and started to accumulate in there. The lights are so hot that they literally started to burn and so it was a giant pile of burning bugs, which was one of the worst smells I've ever encountered.
Next CP Trip: June 9th
Go Cubs!
The bugs came out recently, and the Yankees have been in town since Friday. Makes sense!
I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.
I noticed the muffleheads were starting when I was there a couple weeks ago. When I worked a food stand at CP in the 70's (on the beach) the last thing we would do at night, after everything inside was put up, was to fire up one of those big aerosol bug bombs, set in on the counter and shut the door behind us. The next morning the counters, grills, pop machines, everything was covered with a big thick layer of dead muffleheads for the opener to clean up. Talk about a "eeewww".
Years ago ACE had a trip to Crystal Beach on Lake Erie in Ontario and I remember there was a huge mufflehead population there, too.
In the 50's, when my mom and dad lived in Sandusky, they drove their little convertable to Cameo for dinner one evening. When they came out a swarm of muffleheads had landed, completely covering the inside and ouside of the car. My dad had to literally sweep the bugs out so they could get in.
I like when they swarm around the Skyride. It's comical to watch the hapless passengers when they realize their car is about to pass right through that huge cloud of bugs, and they have no way out. They always hit the floor and you can hear the screaming from the midway!
I'm the oldest one here. CP emp '73-'74
I remember the worst swarm of Muffleheads I've ever seen was 5 or 10 years back I was with my family in Leamington, Ontario getting ready to board the ferry to go to Pelee Island for the day. The ground of the building corners were just absolutely full of dead bugs. It looked like snow drifts but very dark and buggy.
We'll miss you MrScott and Pete

My bad-I linked the wrong Mufflehead story--I corrected the link and now it is the recent story...thanks! :)

I was there in august of 07 and waiting in line for Millennium, the train comes rolling into offload, and the first 3 or 4 rows of the train are black with these things, must have passed through a swarm along the circuit. everyone onboard was spitting and choking. The faces were excellent.

That Yankees Indians game was just disgusting to watch. Having a phobia of bugs and stuff like that I just shivered watching.
Let's Get Weird.
Yeah, huge swarms around the point of those things. I thought they were mosquitos, but some employees told me they weren't.
Anyway, on MF early in the morning I rode front seat last week. Got absolutely covered with the beasties on my face and shirt, and my buddy ate a couple. Later in the week I was running to TTD and swallowed one of the suckers.
They're out, and they are covering just about everything at CP. you'll see
...nothing beats those humongous disgusting spiders over at wicked twister hanging down while you're in line...
fast...Faster...FASTEST!
^Never noticed those, but thanks for making me never want to ride WT ever again....
First rollback=opening weekend '09
My wife swallowed a bug while entering Camp Snoopy last year. She puked right by the Peanuts Canoe and Waterfall....
