Mr. Skyward?

Josh M.'s avatar

Seriously... I know he's a legend on this forum and all... but give the guy some space. The internet is a wide open place, and who is to say that "Mr Skyward" has never seen any of the things written about him here.

I'm not saying to never mention his name again (I have brought him up briefly before), but at least keep in mind the fact that he is another CP fan just like us, and just because he may look different, or seem different to you, doesn't mean we can talk about him and assume he will never know about it... Try to treat him (and "woo-man" for that matter) the same as you would treat any other CP-loving guest...

When I first started coming to this forum back in 2002 it was a big inside joke. And the people who used to talk about the "sightings" of him, were actually friends with him. So my intentions were never to make fun of him.

I just hadn't heard of that name in a verrrrry long time, until I did a search on an un-related topic. So I was just curious to who this famous Mr. Skyward was. And from what I read, he seems like a quiet but nice person.

I wasn't pointing fingers Jesz... and I know that some who have mentioned him on this board have actually sat down and talked to him... That is a completely different situation.

The people who I was frustrated with are people who don't know him, never care to, and like to point out things about him to make fun of...

I know you wern't Josh. I just felt that since I started the thread, I should explain why I did it. I agree with you that it is uncalled for people to make fun of him though. If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. That's what I live by. :)

He actually seems like a pretty funny person to hang out with. I read someones old TR. I believe Hooper? He got the chance to ride Raptor with Mr. Skyward, and there were some young girls behind them that kept screaming. So everytime they would scream, he would yell, "Shut up!" lol.

No offense to Skyward (in case you are reading), but he isn't the same guy that wears the neon yellow t-shirt that says "Cedar Point single rider," is he?

No.

No. That's "single-rider" Bob. He seems like an OK guy. I talk to him a little every so often because he knows the guys I hang out with.

1,146 rides on Raptor. Three rides in 2009.

That guy is either making a bold statement of his independence or making a sad statement. I'm not sure which.

While on the subject, I was just reading further into my "Mr. Skyward" search and came across this: http://www.pointbuzz.com/Forums/Thread/6894.aspx?page=1 It is a story that someone started in the off season, but it quickly turned into a story completely about Mr. Skyward. It is hilarious.

OMG I had totally forgotten about that thread! Hilarious! :)
And the thing about him sitting on my lap is so true too!

But truth be known, Mr Skyward (whos real name is John but also is known as Sandusky Sportsguy) is just a kind soul who loves to hang out at CP. When I worked Raptor he always made sure he waved at me and sat in my row. When he sees me in the park he always comes over and says hi (or what ever it is he is saying, hard to understand him when he's always looking up)
It is a game for my CP buds and I to guess which shirt he will have on if we see him at the park. Since there is only 4 odds are good you'll be right.
I actually took a picture with him in '00, and have quite a few pictures of he and I riding Raptor together.

He may appear creepy to some but he truly is a sweetheart who wouldn't hurt a fly. A trip to CP without a Mr Skyward sighting just doesn't seem right!

It's all about getting around the barrels, or over the fences, right leads, no faults, fastest time and looking pretty when done. What's so hard about that?

Yes, he does seem to be a nice guy as I have spoken with him while he was in the midst of riding the Millenium 20-25 times during early entry. The funny thing about him is that he comes to the park usually with a friend (who is an Iraq war vet), but chooses to ride solo since the 2 of them can get to the front of the line quicker that way.

Yeah Jo, I read that story and I couldn't keep myself from cracking up. :) That's pretty funny that he actually did sit in your lap.

As a parent with an autistic child (9 years old) he is thrilled going to Cedar Point. He does not ride anything but loves to watch the coasters and the other rides. It might be a stimulus thing that he enjoys. From reading this thread it sounds like many of the people you find odd might well be autistic. Which causes them not to be social or do do not understand the social norms. Say hello and smile check to see if they avoide looking in you in the eyes. If they do not look into your eyes most chances they are Autistic.

Bob is also the person who rode Wicked Twister 103 times in one night! Twister Bob as he was called by the crew then. The only reason I know this is because I joined him that day. The crew kept track in controls it was a fun day.

And Jeff he is not single his wife does not visit the park so he wears the shirt to try to get more rides out of his visit. Bob is a great guy who is very smart. He just doesn't know how to dress... ;-)

He's about trampled me running from exit to entrance, and I'm over 250. I've seen him just run kids over before..

That sounds about right. He and his other single riding friend were drenched in sweat from all of the running that they do once they enter the park. They go on a dead sprint the moment they leave the ride's exit and make a mad dash to the entrance.

He sounds like a cool guy to meet, with all this trampling over kids stuff. ;)

How can these people like Single Rider Bob, Woo Man, and Skyward seemingly be at the park everyday? Does anyone know what they do for a living? From a financial and time standpoint this amazes me.

Jesz's avatar

If you live in the Sandusky area, and have a platinum pass...it would be very easy to be at the park every day.
