Motion sickness

What do you take for motion sickness?  I was at CP this weekend, my first time back after 9 years. I found that my motion sickness has gotten significantly worse. Saturday I took nothing and barely made it through the day. Today I took 2 mezclizine ("less-drowsy" Dramamine) in the am. I didn't get sick like yesterday (not nauseous but not normal feeling either), but I was done for by 2pm. Started to drive home and actually had to pull over to sleep.

My family has season passes, and I LOVE coasters, but I don't know if I can take this disappointment all summer long. Does anyone have any tried and true remedies?

From my experience, your body just needs some motion conditioning. I always get much worse motion sickness at the start of the season. The more visits and more riding I do in a season, the less sick I become.

But, I feel your pain. I was extremely disappointed when 2 quick rides on Diamondback and 2 on Vertigo during ERT left me so sick that I was worried about puking.

I went to the car and took a Bonine (which is what you took I believe), and I was able to do a Fast Lane ride marathon the rest of the day with a reduced sickness. I didn't feel normal, but nowhere near the level of puking I had experienced in the early morning.

I imagine my Cedar Point trip, coupled with Bonine, is going to go much smoother. And hopefully after a few more visits, I won't need anything.

I haven't been to a theme park since I was teenager and the rides didn't bother me then, but I've noticed as I've aged (only in my mid20s now) that my problem with motion sickness has gotten worse. I am a little worried about nausea getting to me at our trip to CP next weekend. I do have bonine for car rides, but it does make me very drowsy and I would like to enjoy the trip without getting too sleepy.

For my cruises I've been fine with a couple ginger tablets a day, has anyone tried this for coasters? I plan on taking it with me and crossing my fingers that it works and I won't have to resort to the stronger meds.

Here are a few tips that work for me during the infrequent times that I get any dizziness, nausea, or motion sickness:

1. Pace yourself. Don't race from ride to ride simply because the lines are short. Cut yourself some slack; relax and take a few minutes between rides.

2. Stay hydrated. You'd be surprised how much this can make a difference. Also in the same vein, try to avoid too much sun exposure (sometimes a tough thing to do at an amusement park).

3. Take breaks. At the first sign of distress, find some shade and get some down time.

4. Mix it up. Don't try to hit five spin-and-pukes in a row if you know the results won't be pretty. Intersperse rides and attractions that don't set off symptoms.

5. Carefully work yourself back up to full throttle after meals. Don't follow a binge at Midway Market with an immediate jump on Troika or Windseeker. What's wrong with the skyride until you get your belly back in proper working order?

Hope this helps.
