Given the fact that CP's marketing is heavily tied in with the most coasters title, as in "On top of the world in Sandusky, OH.", or, "America's Rollercoast", how would CP react to another park tieing the record this year? We know of the rumored two coasters at SFMM, which would give them 14. And, according to Dan, CP is aware of the rumor also. If the SFMM rumor is true, do you guys think CP will install a small "filler" coaster in time for the 2001 season? Something like a wild mouse or an Arrow Acrobatic coaster would preserve the record, would not be too expensive, and would be a fun ride. Even though a new coaster was not announced, would a small production model like this be a possibility?
If Cedar Point was to install a smaller coaster to retain the record a lot of people would look down on them. They would have 3 small coasters. Now if it was an Arrow-Batic then I guess that would be fine. I am sure Cedar Point would not be to devistated if they had to share their record. It wouldn't be so long until Cedar Point would have 15. Also Cedar Point is not only know for its Amount of coasters but for quality. It is number 1. No one really has topped them.

Number 1 And Only Cedar Point.
Hopefully, since CP seems to be in the know about things such as record holdings and what not there will be maybe two rides in 2002. One small one, wild mouse, **BOARDWALK** and a woodie, somwhere.
That is jsut my guess and hopes, But don't expect anything new for 2001 except for LightHouse Point and paint jobs.

Hey magnum2g3 have you ever been on any of the new breed of mice? The new mice are great, there are a ton of companies out there making them. They are so fun to ride. I rode the one at Hershey and had a blast!

So you think the basis of CP even building coasters in the first place is just to have the record. Is this what it is centered around. I doubt it. It goes hand in hand with building coasters. I think they feel more like if we can build a great coaster and have the record, great, but if not that's okay too. Only useful thing the record is useful for is marketing but if you advertise 14 coasters and not many are any good, people aren't going to like your park and probably aren't going to come back. This seems to be the direction SFMM is moving.

Trim brakes-a necessity???
Dan: The one at Hershey is a lot of fun and would look great on the lakefront at CP. It has to be fairly cheap compared to the mammouth coasters CP usually puts in.
As far as the coaster record, I think it is a given that some park will match CP soon. CP has used this as an advertising gimmick for awhile, but it's really the quality of rides I'm concerned with, not quantity. That's why it would not phase me if CP tore down a coaster or two in the near future to make way for better technology. But, we'll see.
No, Cedar Point plans everything they build in at least 2 years in advance. So anything they do build is planned well in advance.
I think that CP is far more interested in the quality and the longevity of the rides they build than maintaining records of "we have the most..." Quality is obvious, but by longevity I mean rides that are going to be consistently popular for many years, not rides that can be found at many other parks. That doesn't mean, of course, that a ride that is found all over the place is not quality, but CP seems to pride itself on being unique.
Even if another park were to tie with the number of coasters, do you think that Cedar Point would cease to use the slogans such as America's Roller Coast? I don't think so, since that is so closely associated with CP anyway.

If it came down to it, I think they might try to head off the total count. That's just a guess, mind you.
Anyway, if you've never been on a Reverchon spinning mouse (Kennywood's Exterminator), you don't know how cool a ride like that can be. Even Mack's standard mouse (BGW) is a lot of fun. The kids really love it!
And as for quality, keep in mind that diversity doesn't mean low quality. Geez, SFGAm is putting in a pair of shuttles for next year! There's nothing wrong with smaller coasters, and in fact every year that passes I come to appreciate them even more.

For what it's worth, Arrow has a nice wild mouse. I've only been on one, Mad Mouse at Michigan's Adventure, but you know, as a ride that Mom and the kids can ride together, it's perfect.
(Note: For Michigan's Adventure, I'd say that's a big addition. For CP, I'd call it "filler". ;))

What is not quality about SFMM's coasters? The rumor mill is still centering around the Arrow 4D, with a top speed of 76mph: A super invertigo (never before seen, so most likely pretty cool): and an additional kiddie coaster, which a park of that size needs.
Yes, I defend the Mountain because I live out West. But BOTH CP and SFMM will have quality as well as quantity. I love both parks!! Come on out West sometime, I'll give you a tour!!

I don't think CP would just throw a ride into the park. That park is very carefully and strategically layed out.
Let's not be kidding ourselves. There's this thing called an ego. Everybody has one and CP is no exception. You don't think CP likes the claim to fame that they're the biggest and the best. And that they hold all these records for this and for that. While this might not be the number one reason behind all their new attractions, don't think for even a split second that they're not aware of the fact that they are #1 and want too keep it that way.

Hey a Wild Mouse, I take anything at this point.
Hey Soggy, I might come out west sometime-just not when I'm 14. Sorry about the comment, I would guess they just have more money to spend annually on coasters-they can still build quality rides. There's something hidden inside of me that just says to not like SFMM. I guess what I really should do is do some research and learn more about the park. I just don't agree with the whole Superman thing being a coaster. Oh well, I will learn more and hopefully gain a respect for the park. Thanks.

Will CP. still hold the record for most rides in a park? If they do then thats the Tiebreaker. WE WIN!!!!

That is true, SFMM is severely lacking in number and quality of flat rides. CP has them beat easily in that category.
As for S:TE, I won't even touch that one. Let's just say I respectfully disagree, and leave it at that.

Soggy. Amen to S: TE. We'll press on.
CP knows whats up like I said above, and if they think that the name means that much then they will invest a few million in a small coaster to keep the count above.

Good point Superstew. CP is a big business and therefore does have a big ego.
The one question no one has asked yet is, how can this possibly be a bad thing for either park? Especially for us coaster nuts? I say, keep battling it out as long as we keep getting to see coasters like MF and Goliath!
