Monsters Rock Not Returning?

With the new band (sorry I forget the name and Cedar Point's site is down) do you think the concept of the show will be the same. 80's rock music. I hope so, I kinda wish not only would they make this show during Halloweekends but during the entire season, with different songs of course.

"Nights of Darkness."

I saw it three times today on Sunday Season Passholder Appreciation Day. Red Garter Rob saw it yesterday before I did and he was there today. He said the set is getting tighter. This was basically rehearsals they do every year to work out the show in front of a live audience. Jay Jackson, the drummer, said to give them a couple weekends before I post a video of the entire show on youtube (Marinox420) like I've done each year. That's not to say skip seeing the show next weekend, but he'll be more comfortable having me tape it later as a video documentation for posterity's sake, because as with anything remotely creative, you tweak and fine tune the details. Most people wouldn't notice the difference. Jay's drumming sounds really tight.

I taped the 5:30 pm show. I'll upload the entire show on youtube as a Private video so Jay and myself can see it. I plan to post a Public single, 5-minute edited video of highlights in the next couple of days on youtube to give people a preview teaser for those who are wondering about how it compares to Monsters Rock! in general and maybe to generate some interest.

The show consists of 6 segments. I wrote the set list down at the 4:30 pm show. I have to go back and watch the tape, but I think this is correct:

1 - Opener
Nothin' but a Good Time by Poison

2 - First Medley
Pour Some Sugar on Me by Def Leppard
Poison by Alice Cooper
You Give Love a Bad Name by Bon Jovi

3 - Featured Song
Bring Me to Life by Evanescense

4 - Second Medley
Dream On by Aerosmith
Shook Me All Night Long by AC/DC
Enter Sandman by Metallica
Livin' on a Prayer by Bon Jovi

5 -Third Medley
Total Eclipse of the Heart by Bonnie Tyler
Don't Stop Believin' by Journey (a crowd pleaser so far featuring Becca Jo Cross)

6 - Finale
Foreplay / Long Time by Boston (features keyboards and the band)
Highway to Hell by AC/DC
You Give Love a Bad Name by Bon Jovi Reprise

It's approximately a 26 minute show. You'll see the costumes and set decor in the video but they have partial mannequins in the background, a coffin on the left side they walk thru a couple times once with fog, illuminated torsos on the side walls, and nothing hiding the drum kit, and some lighting gobos on the stage. Some of them wear vampire fangs but I didn't see any contacts and definitely no leather vampire suit ala Frank Thompson last year. The costumes look more comfortable overall for the performers but not as elaborate as past years. The wigs were OK but some of them need some work. The overall color palette is black, white, browns, red and blue.

The idea is that the 4 singers are the vampires and the 4 band members are the 'victims'. The stage is their 'lair'. (And they turned Paul the guitar player into a part-time singer too lol)

Why do you think it's OK to post it on YouTube? You don't own copyrights (or licensing) for the material, you don't have talent releases from the performers, and frankly, it's just freakin' creepy.

^ Technically a "single, 5-minute edited video of highlights . . . to give people a preview teaser" qualifies as "fair use" and is completely permissible.

In fact, if it draws more people to CP, CF would, no doubt, encourage it.

This Isn't A Hospital--It's An Insane Asylum!

Looks like more cuts in CP Live Entertainment. As I recall, they were up to 8 singers plus the band last year. I know it was standing room only on Fri/Sat nights last year, too bad they are cutting the show in half.

I saw the new Red Garter show last weekend. The band was good as are most of the singers but the girl from Molly and Maverick is, in my opinion, a huge step down from the talent of the past few years. I do understand she had to be nervous being cast in this show and hopefully will perform better with a few more shows under her belt. The music is not as intense as recent Halloweekends shows, I would almost call it tame. A lot of it sounded like a regular Garter show. This show is definitely not on the same level as Monsters Rock, especially 2006! That cast and show was by far my favorite of them all.

Yeah I miss the setlist from Monsters Rock. I love how the last two years they closed the show with "Kick Start My Heart" by Montley Crue.

OK - what do you think? It has been a month. Has this show grabbed you like Monsters Rock? Has the cast grown on you? I still have reservations about the talent and am just not impressed by the one girl. She still does not seem comfortable up there, maybe she is trying too hard. Monsters Rock had a reputation of being the best and biggest draw for the past few years and I guess that would be intimidating. That rep is definitely in jeopardy this year.
