I was looking this new CP web site (http://members.aol.com/cedarpointonle/index.html) and they have a picture of a postcard with a Monorail. I have been going to CP for 20 years and never new they had monorail. Does any one have any information on this ride? When was it constructed and dismantled? Where did go? Thanks,
Gemini

The Monorail opened circa 1960. Despite its popularity, it only lasted a couple of seasons. I believe it was located near the present day Blue Streak, but I'm not sure.

The monrail was originaly built in 1957, for Akron's Summit Beach Park. It was moved to Cedar Point for the 1959 season, which was when the park began to change from amusement park to a mega-park- what it is today. I believe it was around for a decade- it was removed with many of the 1960s-type rides in the early seventies to make way for the modern technolgy that (in some parts) can still be seen in the park today. This information can be found in the book "Cedar Point, Queen of Watering Places."

I remember it being up closer to where the Beer Gardens are now, but even I was rather young then...it was an awesome ride, one of my favorites ever!(of course, that WAS before I knew what a coaster was...)

The Monorail was removed in the 60's, I believe around the same time the Blue Streak was built. I rode the Monorail as a kid, and I remember it as being a pleasant ride through the woods. The cars hung from the track, like the Sky Ride, rather than traveling on top of the track. Each train had a driver and was pulled by the lead car, which had a gasoline or diesel engine.

Even though I was pretty young, I have clear memories of riding the "up-side-down train" with my grandmother. It was a nice ride through the trees.

They also have a video out that you can buy at one of the gift shops at Cedar Point. It shows the monorail in it. I can't remember is it was entitled Cedar Point A Summertime Tradition or Get to the Point.
