Hello everyone! I'm planning a HalloWeekends trip to Cedar Point for my family. My wife and I have been several times, but this will be our first trip with our son who will be 3... We have never stayed on the Point but thought it would be a good idea with the little one. I've been pricing out packages, and found some reasonable deals in the old sections of Breakers. But looking online I'm finding complaints of mold. All I ask of a hotel is a clean air conditioned room, comfortable bed, and a hot shower. My wife worked for Environmental Health & Safety at UofR and has mold radar. Moldy rooms would be a deal breaker! So what are your experiences at Breakers, both good and bad? Thanks! I haven't stayed in the original section of Breakers in at least 6 years (I load up the RV and stay in Camper Village). From what I know and saw, the rooms are in bad need of updating but our rooms were always clean and I never personally saw any mold, mildew or the likes. But like I said, that has been a few years ago.
I thought I have heard some people say that Breakers might be getting a little attention in the off season. I know there was some work going on in there during the off season tour last month.

We've stayed in the Breakers once a Summer since 1989. We've mostly stayed in the large suites at the end of the Rotunda wings, but occasionally we've stayed in the newer section that's closer to Windseeker. While these rooms aren't the most fancy rooms in the world, we've never felt the need to complain.
Two years ago we stayed in the Bon Air section during Halloweekends and I was disgusted. Not only was there mold in the bathroom, but the entire room and furnishings were old and badly worn. The blanket on our bed was an old, holy, tattered pink piece of cloth with a 4 inch satin trim that was mostly ripped off.
I happened to take a picture of the mold in our bathroom (which fit in well with the 1960's era wallpaper):

I hope they either renovated these rooms or closed them, because they should be embarrassed if not.
If all the players are ready...at the sound of the bell, ROLL EM!
It says right on the reservations page that the BonAir rooms are being updated.
"New for 2012, Room features include updated fixtures and decor in the room and bathroom"
I've stayed in that section 3 times and never had a problem.
We'll miss you MrScott and Pete
I've stayed in the Bon Air 3 times and I've never had a real problem. That doesn't mean there perfect 5 star rooms but as far as mold goes I've never seen any. There are much worse hotels in Sandusky compared to the Cedar Point hotels.
The old Bon Air sections were recently updated. And I'm sure they wouldn't offer or wouldn't be allowed to offer, for that matter, those rooms with a mold problem.

Whoever installed the fiberglass tub liner in the moldy room picture used the wrong type of caulking, probably just a painter's all-purpose caulk. Mold loves regular caulk, and no matter how well you clean the surface, mold will form. They need to replace that caulk with a kitchen and bath caulk that has mold inhibitors, then the problem will disappear. I wouldn't blame the Breakers cleaning staff on that, blame a lazy or stupid contractor.
I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

I had to read this three times to figure out what you meant. Proper English is good and stuff.
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun
By the way, as I posted on CoasterBuzz, they're apparently refurb'ing the Bon Aire section this year, so you can expect it to feel shiny again.
