Millennium Mania?

Just curious if any season pass holders or others that live closer than 1000 miles (I'm currently in FL) know whether or not this is going to happen again this season. I searched on the official site and got last year's information only (and I searched here but didn't see any threads on it, sorry if there is), but there's supposedly a boat show of some sort? Is the park open for that or just the marina? It was quite confusing (check out the park calendar and "events" to find that). Thanks for the info!
Unfortunately no...apparently it didn't make them any money...who'd have guessed!?

Anyway, nice to see you back...it's been a while since I've seen you post here.

June 28th: LocoBazooka Tour (Sevendust headlining)
July 11th: Korn, Puddle of Mudd, and Deadsy

Perhaps we should start a "Save Millennium Mania" petition like the "Save the Whizzer" one talked about over at CB. I'd certainly be willing to pay more money than last year.

It really is unfortunate the events that occurred around the time of MM last year were eventually the reason for the low turnout.

Ahhhh, I was wondering why, when it seemed so popular, but I didn't connect the dates with current events and so forth. But I noticed that there's some boat show at the Cedar Point Marina at the same time, so that might be part of the reason why they wouldn't have it either -- renting out might bring in more than Millennium Mania, who knows.
The boat show has nothing to do with it being cancelled. I remember pulling up to the parking attendant booth last year and being asked if i was going to Millennium Mania or the boat show. Too bad I didn't say the boat show, maybe parking would have been free then. ;)

Hoping to work at The Point in '03 so I too can get drunk and pee on VertiGo

Too bad even though I work at the park I have payed to go to both MM just for the fun of it heck the first season I stayed on Raptor for an hour and a half straight it was great. too bad I passed on those free vertigo rides last season.

Was it that they made no profit, broke even, or took a loss? If they took a loss, I would pay more to go. Even with the rain hitting me in the face at 92mph, that was the best time I ever had at CP. Of course I was there the day before the No ReRides rule was enforced. Leave it to one person to complain and ruin it for everyone.
I was concerned in 2000 that MM wouldn't fly again in 2001 due to the low turnout. It was 3 days for 3 weeks if I recall. In 2001 they cut it back to 2 days and 2 weeks, and still the turnout was low.

I think last year was an exceptionally bad year. Many people were upset that Millie was down due to the broken cable lift, and then the 9/11 tragedy the following week.

Whether the stink about re-rides had an effect or not, I'm not sure. It could be that was the straw that broke the camel's back.

As Joey said above, and as I've said before, I would definitely pay more to have MM back.

I think they needed to promote it better. The signage in the park was great but outisde of that I heard very little about it.

long live the sky slide

It was easy to see why they did fail to make money the first 3 days last year, I even talked about it here back then. Good Times

The last Friday though they probably turned a profit, but the question I think was it enough money? If per capita spending was $30 each and attendance was 2000 people, that's $60,000. Minus expenditures and to them it's not a whole lot. The reasoning may be that it is not worth the risk at a chance to earn just small amounts.

One of the other reasons of course could be the whole fiasco on Friday. If they do ever have an event like this again clearly stated rules would help. If they put information on the Millennium Mania map about the reride policy it could have avoided that. An example of a good policy could be if someone is waiting for your seat and there are no more available on the ride you must exit.

One thing I am surprised about is when they cease weekday operation before halloweekends they are not open Friday. Those first Fridays in September last year were gorgeous and even if only a few rides are open like halloweekend Fridays they could still have a great turnout. Much better than Fridays in October when it's cold and rainy. ;)

I thought the whole idea was for low attendance. The way I heard MM was, was what I got. Little to no lines is what was advertised and that is what we got.
