So definitely something going on with the lift. It was running 3 trains today but the lift was no longer variable speed, rather it was slower the whole way up (Meaning 8 MPH or so instead of the 13 MPH). There was no speed up after the last train cleared the on-course block.
I wonder if they are worried about stress on the motor that speed up causes, or perhaps just pulling the train faster in general. Other thought is the issue was with the control of the variable speed itself, so just slowing it was the solution.
There seems almost no impact operationally as intervals were pretty much the same and the line was moving well. Could write a whole book on what the 5 seconds slowdown will and wont due, but quick thinking it should not be much. Would not be surprised this is a permanent change to the ride.
Oh, and there is zero impact on the ride itself with the slower lift. Ok, it might go 93.12MPH now instead of 93.16 MPH with the faster lift, but wind and temperature will have a much bigger impact on the ride quality. With warm weather and a light wind tonight, it was as fast as ever.
