Millennium Force vs Magnum XL-200

(Before you get all worked up, NO! This is not a thread asking which one is better. They're different, apples and oranges, and blah blah blah..)
Anyway, when I talk to a lot of people who aren't coaster addicts like us, they seem more itimidated by the Magnum then they are by Millennium Force? Anyone have a clue why that is?!? For crying out loud it's like 100 feet higher and 20mph faster(all of which you can feel!) Is the appearance of MF more "rider friendly?" I've heard some say it's because the Magnum is so myseterious. Think about it. If you're a Magnum non-rider, you see people leave, climb this gigantic hill, fall, and come back about a minute or so later from a pitch black tunnel with smiles on their face. MF on the other hand, you can see a lot of the layout, with the exception of most of the island parts. What does everyone else think?

Magnum has gotten "rough" this year compared to MF because of it's smoothness, so that could be intimidating.
For someone who hasn't been to CP before I can see why they maybe more intimidated by Magnum. With MF, you can see what it does and where it goes. With Magnum on the other hand, it goes back toward the lake through Soak City away from the main park itself, which makes it hard to see where it goes and what it does. Magnum kinda hides itself.
I think that it is mainly because of the small footprint that the lift hill/drop takes up (I hope I said that right). The Magnum's hill and drop are both less steep, so it almost looks bigger than MF's hill. Another point is the way that Magnum always looks like it is "in the distance" from the midway, while you are right next to MF's hill. That's my take on it anyway.
I agree with Rperz. Magnum looks much bigger because the acent is so long. When I first saw it Magnum almost looked higher than MF.

I dont know guys, looking at Magnum now after seeing MF, Magnum looks so small. Maybe its cause you can get closer to Magnums first hill from the parking lot, compared to the hill on MF, which you cant get as close too??

The more you ride it, the more you want it!

I would have to agree compared to Millennium Force, Magnum is small, it is very obvious that Magnum is smaller than Millennium Force. Now I would have to disagree with the notion that people are intimidating. I don't know who you talk to but most people I know will ride Magnum. You peobably talked to people who wouldn't even touch Corkscrew. Maybe maybe not. I was not afraid of Magnum people because of what I didn't see I was afraid of the first drop

If you park in the Soak City lot, you notice just how NOT steep the Magnum's drop hill is compared to MF. Still love both of 'em tho!

Oops... I rode it again!
I think the freakiest view of how large MF is, is when you are going towards MF, across the bridge by Snake River Falls, and the swans. Just seeing woods, the bridge, and then you see MF looming WAY above everything else. Rising above the trees. It stands out, and really makes you appreciate how big it is.

Magnum has just seemed to get smaller over the years. I am not meaning that in a physical sense, it's still 205 feet high and everything-I just think this because Magnum is the first coaster I ever rode and it was big and exciting that first year. Now it just doesn't give me the same feeling, but it's still my favorite coaster!!

Just to make this perfectly clear to people questioning me, I am 14 so that thing about the first coaster I rode is true, I was about 9 or 10 at the time. *** This post was edited by SkiDoo9613 on 5/25/2000. ***
Well it is getting smaller...it's sinking, didn't you know that?

I think it is because Millennium Force's hill is mostly viewed by the GP from the side. While Magnum is looked at from in back of it's hill. This would make Millennium Force look more curved at the top and Magnum look like just a drop. Plus Millennium doesn't have fog in the tunnels. :)

Dispatch Master, This is Transport one! I'm losing control, I'm losing control!
It could be because Magnum is now considered a true classic. its 11 now and still it's at the top of many lists. It has been in automotive magazines and been called an engenering masterpiece. All this hype has to be something. However, Magnum did't get all the hype that MF has been getting when it opened.
