I heard that at the end of this season, they closed millennium for a day to any riders when the park was open to do a video or photoshoot at the ride, I think at the end of October this year. Does anyone know what this was for? I'm guessing travel channel again. I am just curious.
Yes. It was a Monday morning shoot. And I believe it was a news story segment.
EDIT: The photo shoot was Columbus Day Monday.
Well some jerk professor and his students shut the ride down on the Sunday after Columbus Day (October 18th) as well. At least for a couple hours. Something about phobias...

well I heard it was during the park hours...on a sunday. i'm assuming it was October not end of September
twistedwicker if it was a news story, I wonder why they'd be reporting at millennium, unless someone got injured or something

If I remember correctly, it was for Millennium winning best steel coaster again.

Oh it's a news story alright. One that just might see the light of day soon.
ohh tell us kevin :) now I'm getting all antsy!
The shoot I was referring to (which occurred Sunday, October 18th) was the result of ABC's "Nightline" news program documenting an annual research project that culminates with a trip to Cedar Point.
Let's just all agree to agree that Tony Clark is a wonderful human being, and the park was kind enough to allow myself and my students access to Millennium Force all by ourselves (well, and the ABC crew). The plan was to have everything completed by the time early entry started at 10:00 AM, but the temps that morning dipped will into the 30's, delaying the rides and documentation. At 11:00 we were still on the platform, but got the rides in soon thereafter. I honestly don't recall what time it actually ended, but the park was open to the general public by that time, and there were plenty of happy, patient, kind-hearted people waiting in line to extend their gratitude towards myself and my students as we exited.
Due to the volatile state of news coverage the airdate has been in flux (it was originally going to air the Friday before Halloween), but the segment is now scheduled to air on Friday, December 18th.
ABC Nightline airs at 12:30 AM, just after Kimmel.

To the three of you following along, the airdate has been shifted to sometime during the first week of the new year.
More to come...

Is this ever going to air? Why does it keep getting delayed?

Well, Nightline is a live show. The original idea was to have it air just before Halloween, but that never materialized. Then the Russian plane was destroyed, the Paris attacks happened, and then the California terrorist attacks occurred. All of these things kept it shifting, and now it is slated to be part of a "new you in the new year" collection of segments. I never realized how fluid and dynamic the schedule of these programs are until, well,
October.
It will indeed air, it's just a matter of time.
