Saw the announcement on facebook that today (Sat. Aug. 21st), the park will be celebrating the tenth anniversary of the infamous Millennium Force.
Being that I will be going to the Point today, making it my second trip EVER to the park, I was wondering if I should expect an increase in attendance due to the event.
Was REALLY hoping to get a front seat ride on Millennium, but seeing as how we usually arrive a little later in the day, I'm thinking it might not be wise to spend much time waiting for a front seat.
Regardless of all of that, let this be a Millennium Force appreciation thread!
I can say that my very first trip to Cedar Point included a ride on MF. It was pretty epic to boot. Got in line around 8:30PM, and by the time we took a seat in the last car, the sun was pretty much gone. As we ascended the lift hill, you could see a really awesome light show from a brewing storm out over the lake.
All in all, it made for an incredibly intense first ride, and I really hope to score a front row seat in daylight today.
To be honest, I would say it's FAR more exciting than Top Thrill. Not just because of length, but because the first drop on MF is completely unbroken. You think you can hold it together, but it seems the last 50 feet or so really rip your stomach right from you body and throw it out like a piece of trash.
Top Thrill on the other hand has the spiral on the drop. I really have to wonder what that ride would be like without that element. It seems to break up the rush of the drop. Not sure on the physics of it though, and it could be that the spiral enables the acceleration back to 120mph. It just doesn't seem as exciting as the big blue's drop.
As it being most kid's last weekend before school starts, I would expect it to be super busy tomorrow.
Let's Get Weird.
Wait for the front seat! It is definately worth it. :) Ride the entire ride with your hands up too. It makes for a much better experience.
"You wanna, you gotta, you hafta hold on, Cedar Point...HOLD ON!"
I actually find Millennium Force rather boring after the first drop. Everyone loves that ride, but I think Magnum-XL-200 is a much better ride. The front seat on Millennium is pretty good though. It would suck to be stuck on the lift hill, then get out of the front seat, I would freak out.

Second row is pretty good too. Since the seats are slightly raised above the first rows you get to see over and get a similar experience as the front. Plus the wait is much less.
I thought front row was best until I rode in the back. Much better acceleration over the lift hill and a nice bit of kick in the turns. It is still my favorite ride, bar none. Great speed throughout.
As far as the spiral on the drop of TDD, I just always assumed that was to get the train lined back up in the right direction to come out of the drop.
Happy Anniversary MF! Wish I could have gone today, but had to work. It'll still be there for ERT tomorrow morning though, see if we can catch first train in the morning.
Uh, this is an appreciation thread, so let's go easy on the "boring" complaints.
My first ride was also a night ride, followed by a morning ride the next day. We were assigned the front seat for the morning ride (something they did only in 2000). Both rides were EPIC as I remember. Absolutely nothing like it. I wish every new ride could create that kind of experience.
I'm really looking forward to BooBuzz this year and some super ERT.

I remember in an interview were Kinzel stated that they didn't want to build another Magnum, they wanted speed from start to finish. I guess people feel it's boring from the track being so smooth.
My first ride was back in June of 2001, from that first ride it's been my favorite steel coaster. Magnum a close second. :)
Oh and I found these old Cedar Point songs, like Hold On, Get to the Point,

My first ride (2004) was a night ride as well. That first drop in the dark is, as you said, epic. It is still the coaster that I judge all other coasters by. So far, none have come close in my book. Looking forward to next Friday and passholder ERT, see how many laps we can get in an hour. Made ERT this morning, first train of the day, three Sundays in a row.
What and when is BooBuzz, and how does one get in? If it means more ERT on MF, where do I sign up?
It's a bit crazy to think it's already ten years old. Seems like it was just put up a few years ago. It's a kickass ride, a good #2 or #3 at the park (Magnum first!!).

Grrrrr.....they would have to do it on a Friday. I need to win megamillions so I can quit work and have fun :)
Yeah, it has been on Saturdays the past 3-4 years so it's a Friday this year. I think it should be good because typically it is so crowded on Saturdays you can't do much after the morning ERT.
