midway market question

Tipping housekeeping IS as common as tipping at a restaurant. It's a small "thank you" for cleaning up my mess when I stay at a hotel.

On Midway Market service, I've been there three times this year and had excellent service twice and only fair service once. Suprisingly, the fair service happened when it was not especially busy.

Thanks for the tipping the housekeepers thing, even though its off-topic. My parents being immigrants, I don't think they really know much about proper tipping ettiquette for things like hotels, and when I was younger and travelled with them, I didn't seem to see them tip the housekeepers very often, unless they got exceptional service, which did occurr.

I guess I mainly only saw them tip when we went on longer stays.

Now I have been travelling on my own some for a couple of years now, though not often, and have not generally tipped. I feel bad now, so I was wondering what a good tip would be for a hotel, or if anyone can link me to a site with good info.

Also, when at the Point, I usually eat at Johnny Rockets, where I try to tip as well as I can. The service there is generally very good, and the prices are reasonable.

Having never been a server, but working at a restaraunt once, I can say tipping well is very important. When I go to a place, there is usually the possibility of me coming back again. If I come back, and am known as a good tipper, I get great service, since the server will know they will be rewarded. I try to tip at least 20% when the service is at least decent, and exactly 15% if it isn't very good.

Ok, enough of my rambling. Thanks for the hotel info, and don't forget, the kids at CP depend on YOU, so even if all they do is get your drinks and bus, I suggest a good tip if they do it well, and contribute to your trip being "Simply Amazing!"

Ok, lets get back on track......the problem that I have is that they dont have a self serve soda machine rather then a wait staff. Why pay an entire wait staff, when all you need is a few bus boys?
The Midway Market is without a doubt a great place to eat. I don't tip at all, seeing as I don't have cash to give away to anyone. But I like how the servers get your drinks. Saves us time. But the fresh plate thing is pretty weird IMO. If you're gonna put the same food on the same plate, why use a clean one? Waste of dishes, and lots of work.
Ohio law requires that a clean plate be obtained for each trip to the buffet. Sanitary reasons.

V Dogg, interesting point of view. I'm compelled to ask you, tho--why bother washing your clothes and wearing deodorant if people should like you for who you are instead of what you look and smell like? Waste of soap and lots of work, right?

As JayDubs said, sanitary reasons. The clean plate requirement is to prevent the spread of disease. Consider this -- person in front of you is carrying mono. The take their dirty plate up to the buffet, scoop something out, touch their plate with the serving utensil, then put said utensil back into the food. Everyone behind them, and especially you since you're next in line, are now at risk of getting it. Ew.
