Midway Market

My husband, sister, and I are supposed to be going to CP on 6/5. Anyway, my husband wants to eat at the Midway Market (we have never eaten there). Is it worth the money? How is the food? Please help!!!!

If you're looking for one good meal while you're at the park and don't want to spend a ton of cash on a traditional sit-down eatery, I would highly recomend MM. My kids (ages 2 and 6) and I ate there over Memorial Day weekend. Using my Joe Cool discount, the three of us ate there for around 13 bucks and some change. The Joe Cool club discount was only for the month of May. Even without it, it's probably one of the best meals I've had at the park. Adults are 12.95 per person and, of course, it's as much as you care to eat. Didn't get a chance to sample any of the deserts, but they sure looked good! The sliced roast beef with au-jus was quite good! :-)
The food is better than other "in-park" food I've had, but not quite as good as you might find at the out-of-park spots. (It is a buffet, after all, not a full-service, made-to-order restaurant). However, the price is good for what you are getting, it is one of the few places in the park to get a vegetable that isn't deep-fried, and the variety is a huge win when you have kids in tow. It's also nice to take a break in a relatively quiet space that is warm when it's cold outside and cool when it's hot.

If you eat breakfast on your way to the park, and plan to head to Midway Market mid-to-late afternoon, it could easily be the only meal you eat in the park.

For folks with kids: if you have a getaway guide (1-800-BEST-FUN), it has a "kids eat free with parents" midway market coupon good for the entire operating season. We used our JCC discount on opening day, and would go back even if we paid full price.

Midway Market is a great place to eat in the park. They have both lunch and dinner. I would recommend going for dinner. Lunch is about $2.00 less but the selection of food is not as big. The food quality is very good, about the best i've seen at buffet places. Certainly better than Hometown Buffet.

Florida may have Disney World and Key West,
but Ohio has Cedar Point and Put-In-Bay.
It's great to live in Ohio!

Instead of eating at the Midway Market (I don't eat enough to spend 12 bucks) I just drive down the causeway and hit East of Chicago. All you can eat pizza for 6 bucks!! I love it...especially the PB & J Pizza :)

It's a great deal. It was the only place we ate at twice during our stay two summers ago. You're going for quantity and comfort more than quality, but that's pretty much the case for CP's in-park eats (if you want something nice just take a break at the marina).

It's pretty much on the same standard as a Golden Corral or Hometown Buffet, with a bit less in terms of selection but still plenty to please everyone. I don't think you guys have a Sweet Tomatoes up in Ohio yet (started out in California, now big here in Florida) but THAT is one fine buffet.

As a tip, I forget at what time the prices go from lunch to dinner, but a late lunch (i.e. early dinner) might be a good money-saving bet.

...and Midway Market offers "bottomless drinks". Now Only if they served beer;)

MM is a great VALUE...Another "adult" dining places to consider are The Boathouse (great meals Ribs and Chicken), and Bay Harbor Inn (pricey but excellent Seafood/Steaks)

The Midway Market is a tradition for us. Every trip we eat there because they offer great food at a good price!

Midway Market is by far the best place to eat in the park. Every trip I make to the park with my boyfriend, we always eat there cause the food is good for one, and two, the price is much better than the Chuck Wagon Inn in the back of the park. Now im trying to convince some friends of mine to eat there when we go next week. Ah man, now im craving a trip to the buffet line. lol

Not particularly. There is a salad bar, which a vegetarian meal does not make. Most entrees have meat, if I recall correctly. If you are vegan, I'm guessing the side vegetables are also cooked in plenty of butter.

Thanks to you all for your feedback. Seeing as we are leaving our small children (all under 5 years old) home with grandma and grandpa, I think that we will try to stay in the park for meals to maximize our ride time. Maybe one of these days we can get away for a weekend. Midway Market will be a definite yes for us.
TheOne, the spread was different both times we went so I'm guessing that they rotate the entree choices.

As for vegetarian options, my memory is probably blurry but beyond the salad bar (and the wide choices of meat-free desserts) I think I recall a "make your own taco" and a pizza or pasta option which you could customize to your tastes.

Either way, it doesn't hurt to go in and look before you commit. On a hot day, the A/C shade rocks.

I've never been there myself, but my aunt once told me that their meatballs "melt in your mouth." Take from that what you will. :)

i'm the product of a summer romance: my parents met at cp in '75!

Hit Midway Market for lunch twice last week. It was the same spread so it may remain constant. Dinner prices go up, and so does the quality of the grub I believe.

For lunch you have a salad bar. Next to that is the taco bar. Standard ground beef, beans, toppings. Next to that was pizza (three different types - plain cheese, pepperoni and sausage). Next to the pizza you have grilled chicken breast strips (which you can use for the taco-fajita or toss into the pasta), the "melt in your mouth" meatballs and two types of pasta, then you have the pasta sauce.

The manned station was making cheeseburgers. Next to that was an area of burger toppings.

Then you have the dessert station with a a half-dozen different cakes-pastries, three warm cobblers and a person scooping 4-5 different flavors of ice cream (along with a dozen different toppings for the ice cream).

And, of course, all the soda you can drink.

Hope this helps!

Forget East Of Chicago, if you want pizza, you need to go to Chet and Matt's!

"Wheres the Callahan factory?!?!?"

What style of pizza is Chet & Matt's? NYC, Chicago, or something different from either? I've spotted the place a few times, but haven't tried it.
