My idea for a "CP Downtown Disney". It would be located on the airport on Cleveland Rd. Which is currently for sale. It would utilize the runway aas the midway
Attractions
-Peanuts Plaza- A large open plaza sets the theme for all of MM. A large fountain in the center showcases the Peanuts characters.
-Heartline Hotel- A large hotel that is based around the thrill rides of CP. Each room would have beds made to look like a specific ride. In the lobby would be a scale model of CP with working models of every ride.
-Earthquake Cafe- Take a journey back to the good ole days. As an ode to the former ride every 10 minutes an earthquake would rumble the dining area.
-Club Luminosity- Why let the party stop when Luminosity in the park is done? Light up the night in an epic after party every night. Featuring a bar, DJ, and humongous dance floor Club Luminosity would be the perfect end to a perfect day.
-Seagull Shopping Center- Named after the ever so present bird of CP this triple decker shopping would feature everything you need to show your friends and family how great CP really is.
-Rocking Roller Coast Amphitheater- A great outdoor venue for all types of concerts.
-Challenge Plaza- Challenge parks big brother. Featuring a go-kart circuit fully themed to CP. Also, a full lazer tag building, arcade, bowling, indoor/outdoor combo mini golf, and a vertical launch ball.
-Peanuts Place Buffet- A family oriented dining experience. You might. when. get to eat with The peanuts themselves.
Thoughts?? What else would you add??
This would be great if Cedar Fair had a few hundred million dollars lying around... and was located somewhere that didn't force the park to shut down for half the year....
I think this would've better belonged in this thread: http://pointbuzz.com/Forums/Thread/27474.aspx
I don't think the issue is that CP is a seasonal park. Put-In-Bay has numerous drinking and eating establishments that are all seasonal (some call it the Disneyland for Alcoholics) and the businesses on that island seem to be thriving.
Any type of Downtown Disney type area at CP would need to easily accessible to the hotels and campground on the peninsula, resorts guests are what would feed the business in that area. The airport location would be terribly inconvenient and would require it's own parking, etc. Looks like a big failure to me.
All the resorts need, in addition to room improvements, is a little bit of a cruise ship type atmosphere to make it fun. A couple of late night destinations would be sufficient, you don't need an entire Downtown Disney type area. I heard a rumor of a piano bar going into Breakers. That would be great and in addition to that, build a beachside bar and grill. Docks Beach House in Port Clinton is a perfect example of a place like that. Great place to be right by the water with a cold drink, some live entertainment and some decent bar food.
I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.
What a shocker, Pete brings up Put-In-Bay and boats. :)

I just don't see something like this happening. The difference in the cap ex--and, hence, the size of the return necessary to justify such an investment--between slapping on a bar and grill and building something on the order of Downtown Disney is exponential.

How about downtown Sandusky? Shoreline Drive, Water St., Battery Park.....right across the water from CP. Potentially a win-win for both the park and the city.
I think to Pete's point, you don't need to go "all in" for this, you just need to expand out a bit. I've had some epic times at the Friday's in Breakers, going late beyond midnight, but it's crowded and lacks atmosphere.
Imagine repurposing and expanding that little brick structure on the beach across from Breakers, to something like the Lone Palm Airport on City Walk at Universal Orlando. It's outside, has a tropical theme, has sand... it's a perfect kind of place to enjoy some adult time at night and get your drink on. I bet the planning & design folks would love to have a crack at something like that.

Interesting concept...Only I don't think I'd want a bed "shaped" like the Raptor, Dragster or Millenium Force. (Maybe you could put me down for the Mine Ride?)
Also the earthquake cafe, while an interesting concept, could get rather expensive if the plates are not rubberized. Still, a good blue sky idea and something that's fun to think about.
I figure based on Ouimet's Disneyland experience the parking lot has three more years, tops. The deck will be built right by Castaway Bay.
Part of the problem is that CP has very little theming... A lot of these nightclub ideas were considered in the Lyman Harbor complex, with mixed results...
