Michigan days...really?

SO, I just got back into town yesterday from KI, and was so ready to get back to my home park, CP, and after unpacking, decided to head to the point that I missed all weekend after being at KI. I figured, meh, it's monday, and the kids are all back to school, rides should pretty much be walk ons.....YEAH RIGHT...was I disappointed. I think everyone at the park yesterday were michigan residents. And CP gives them discounted tickets! Wow..I only stayed for a couple hours, got ONE ride in, Gemini, ate some awesome fries, and went home. I think I'm gonna try again on Wednesday and Friday. I heard Fridays are dead because of after school events and Football...can anyone verify this?

You mean the park was busy at the tail end of summer when people are trying to squeeze in one last trip?

SHOCKING!!!

Little heavy on the sarcasm djDaemon. I don't think the logic is bad, kids are back in school, but the drop off in crowds usually isn't much until September. From past experience, crowds on and around Memorial Day are always much less than they are around Labor Day.

And you are right, Michigan days are most likely having a direct effect on crowds also. I would imagine they have some way of measuring where people are coming from to the park, hence the promotion. I can't blame them considering how Detroit has been doing lately.

We came in from Michigan last Saturday. The promotion was to include a free unlimited drink for $44.99 (adult). If you purchased your tickets at Meijer, you got a $5 coupon for that store. The item they didn't mention on the website (or the e-mail) was you don't get both promo's - which would have helped our group out a lot.

Considering most of the major shows are done for the summer, the Halloween overlay isn't in place yet, and there are major rides that are down (STR& Skyhawk). The price still seems high since FP/FP+, parking, or Dino's aren't discounted. The crows were pretty good for the day, but the stores didn't seem to be moving much merchandise.

$45 sounds pretty reasonable to me for all that Cedar Point has to offer.

I'm a little disappointed. What about the state to the east of Ohio!? Where's my Pennsylvania days! Lol

Do you all think Friday will be a lighter day, crowd wise?

I was just there Friday and was completely dead!!!

Unless its changed recently, Michigan schools don't start until after Labor Day. So Michigan days the 2 weeks before Labor Day (when Ohio schools are back in session) makes a lot of sense.

I believe the reason for Michigan days discounts is because the most public schools in Michigan are not allowed to open until after Labor Day.

So you're complaining you didn't get enough of a discount? You knew in advance about the shows being over. They dont start putting anything really up for Halloweekends until begining of Septempber. Two rides were down out of how many rides? Yeah, you got the shaft. *insert sarcasm here*

I don't know about Friday, but I can verify that you are completely, 100% incorrect about the park being crowded yesterday. In 100+ visits over 30 years I have never seen a more lightly attended day then yesterday. SRF a walk on during the heat of the day; Mean Streak, Corkscrew, Gemini, Iron Dragon, Blue Streak not able to fill trains despite only running two apiece. Gatekeeper 10 minutes near the end of the night.

The longest wait the entire day was the 20 minutes it took to get in for early entry. Apparently, the park no longer considers your early entry benefit to be worth admitting you in a timely fashion; ticket media is no longer scanned before the park officially opens resulting in a line from resorts gate back to the main Soak City entrance, curving back toward the road and all the way down the path to the parking area adjacent to the Bel Aire section.

I always heard that the first Friday of high school football was a good night to go. We were there last Sunday and we were surprised by the crowds but it was a gorgeous day out and I don't blame people for getting one last day in.

As a sidenote, where do you get the good fries? My dad splurged on some fries by Gemini and was extremely disappointed in them :(

Thanks!

Unless the state installs air conditioning in all public schools I think Ohio needs to stop going back before Labor Day also. My building is miserable.

I personally prefer the fries at the location near Raptor. Maybe just good luck, but never had a bad experience there. The Gemini stand, twice this year had issues. (1- No salt anywhere, when asked, they gave me a little cup with salt in it. 2- Ran out of chili).

Thursday and Friday were pretty dead. Friday had more of a crowd than Thursday but I never waited long for anything. I can't imagine the crowds were insanely huge on Monday compared to last week either.

I bought some fries the other day across from Gemini. Chili cheese fries. I was not impressed. The chili was really runny. I prefer the chili cheese fries across from the Extreme Wheels stadium. The workers there are kinda clueless, but the chili cheese fries there are awesome. The chili is a little thicker, which I like. Thats the thing about CP, is that there is no consistency on like foods at different stands. What I'm trying to say is that not all fries are made the same. SMH..oh well.

I prefer the $1.60 chili cheese fries at the stockade employee break area :P
