I rode Mean Streak at night in a torrential downpour...it was awesome! I was the last train to go...it started pouring just as we started up the lift hill. They let us continue the circuit, and the rain DOES hurt when you're traveling at high speeds, but it was so damn fun, I didn't care. When we got back, we were all soaked, and I noticed that the ride ops had closed the ride...when we exited...no one else got back on. I think we were the last train of the night, since it was about 30 mins before closing, and it rained the rest of the night. Great ride, though!

As far as Ride Ops allowing a ride to remain open or close from the rain is not totally thier decision. From my experience last year, it would be raining to where we thought the rides should be down, but could not shut down until told so by our superiors.
Hey Ktulu do you like Metallica? LOL!
Been there done that in the rain on Raptor and Mantis-yes rain DOES hurt-yes Raptor DOES "pee" rust in the rain and yes I would ride MF in the rain in a heartbeat too!
I would love to ride MS in the rain-thinking it would kick out some of the bad "bumps"
but of course am hoping for a rain-free CP season as I had last year til of course Halloweekends and I got rained on-peed on by Raptor SOO much and went back for more!
(20x on 10-08 in a DOWNPOUR for the most part!)

Welcome back Raptor riders-how was your flight??
Ok, Im just guna add something from the earlier part of this post. Some people were saying that they didnt think rain would make a train go faster. This morning I rollerbladed to school just like any other morning, and the ground was slick, due to some rain over night. As you know, rain makes the oils from the road go to the top, and rollerblades, for the most part, have nylon wheels, like a coaster, and you do get more speed, but you compromise braking abilities, and control, as in, the wheels slide more, due to reduced friction caused by the water and oils. Take what you want from this.

"Welcome back riders, DID YOU ENJOY YOUR FLIGHT?"
Rain helps, especially on coasters like MS which need all the lubrication they can get. However - too much rain merely causes water buildup on the track and slows the trains do to increased resistance forces.
