Memories

Does anyone have memories of when a CP Coaster opened? Give all the details, or in other words, make it vivid!
Don't remember it too well, but one scene that always comes to mind when I see pictures of Avalanche Run is sitting near the Space Spiral watching the bobsled cars run the circuit for what seemed like many hours. My mom was the only one of our family who waited in line for it (I think I was too short or too scared). It was still new, only a few weeks had passed since it had opened, and the line was ridiculous. I remember her saying something along the lines of "I don't see this being worth riding unless it didn't have a wait time at all." So nobody else in our family rode it until a few years later when we found the line at a reasonable length. And then, not again until this past season when I rode DT... it was cold and windy and the building looked inviting.

Now that I think of it, my dad took some pictures while we were waiting. I'll try to find those; probably pretty interesting. *** This post was edited by Mr. Bungle on 12/22/2000. ***
I could seriously write a book on the MF construction and opening, but it would take me too long so I guess I won't...sorry.

MF
I remember the opening of Magnum, and when I was waiting in line at 9:45 at night (mid-June), the line was only about 25-30 minutes long but it took us more than an hour to get on because it kept breaking or setting up or whatever. We hardly noticed, though, because there were 3-4 beach balls being tossed around the queue, even one of those huge ones. Everyone was so friendly, and we were having a great time, with a fantastic ride to top it off!

I was there for the opening of the Mean Streak and Iron Dragon, Disaster, Avalance Run, Demon Drop, Power Tower, Mantis, etc. as well, but all I really noted was long lines! As an employee I got stuck on the front row of Mantis for 40 minutes a couple of days before the park opened, and management walked everyone else off. We were stopped on the block, but the train was tipping over the edge and the walkway didn't reach the front two rows. Kind of cool, and the only time I've been stuck on a coaster.
