I have been staying at Breakers since 1963 ,I'm now 52 and have seen may changes through the years and in my opion not good. They need to put back in The Surf lounge instead of an ice cream parlor. There is no where to have a drink in Brekers except for Fridays who charges $8.00 a beer.I hate the renovations that they did to Breakes, losing all that precious history and losing all the orginal hallways to build those awful towers and closing the other side that use to be a very lon, long hallway that led to an out-door hall-way that took you right into the park near where th old Coral dining room. Please bring back the old cafetria in Brakers, get rid of perkins yech.Just saying that they no longer have any intrest in their adult guest at Breakers. There use to be an out-side bar called The Circus Lounge where they had bands and dancing at night. There is nothing to do there at night anymore at all.
Do you think any other place selling beer is going to cost less than eight bucks?
The only thing they closed on the west side of the building was the old employee wing. While the newer construction is kind of cheap, it still doubled their capacity several times over. It also isn't falling down.

Laura, totally agree with you on the need for some nightlife. I remember the Circus Bar and the Surf Lounge, my first trip to the Breakers was also in 1963. Though when I was old enough to actually go into a bar, the Circus Bar was long gone but the Surf Lounge was still there.
The price of drinks at TGIF are not out of line with expected resort prices, and although it is a nice bar, they despertly need a bar or night club that is not attached to a restaurant to give more of a party atmosphere that people desire while on vacation.
I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.
Thanks,I'm not the only one that thinks this way.I was staying there in 1968 with my family and i can remember the hotel was rocking with people of all ages dancing, drinking ,playing tag out on the lawn at night, teenagers that apeared to what would be called now, hippies had formed a chain of about 50 kids that where singing and dancing on the lawn near the pool, lots of people sitting on the beach at night. It just isn't the same place anymore.
Jeff,I don't know how old you are,but you are sadley mistaken. They took down alot more than the employee wing and in my opinion the new "Section" might have added addtional occupancy, but cheapened the hotels history. If you had stayed there back in the 1960's and 70's you would know what i mean.
The east wings that were replaced with Breakers East were in sad shape. No one wants to stay in a dump, no matter how historic it is. The only part taken out for the west side, where the tower is now, was employee housing. As far as I'm concerned, the only truly historic part that needs to be preserved is the central part and the forward wings off of the rotunda.
