Yeah, because that huge old pile of wood rising up out of Frontiertown to dominate the skylines makes it really hidden. Seriously, its like Cedar Point's version of the Beast...
Its actually not that hard to get to, you might end up at the train station first but, you can see the entrance on the other side of the tracks (which is now marked with a sign) or you can ask one of the employees at the train station of how to get to it.
Magnum being hidden I get, you can not really see it from the main path but Mean Streak?
Maybe I can get a shirt made that says "Ask me, I can tell you how to get to Mean Streak"...just a random thought of stupidity.
Take you up really really high and then drop you at speeds that are really really fast.
Here's a couple pictures of the new sign:

I had never even ridden Mean Streak before this past weekend, so I didn't realize the sign was new.
Between this and the "Top Ten Wooden Coaster" sign from 2006 there are not too many "signs" that Mean Streak is on its way out anytime soon.
Oh well, at least I can ride it in the back seat for its one pretty good pop of airtime...then I'll go hit up the triangular bunny hops a couple steps down the Gemini midway... :)

There is a lot of people unfamiliar with the park, especially guests who may have never been to the park. Mean Streak is hard to get to. Especially when that side of the back of the park is dead compared to the side with Maverick. You can't even see Mean Streak that much as far as a skyline either. Maybe a little bit near Maverick ofcourse, and Skyhawk.

Since we are talking about signs and MeanStreak, I always thought they should place a portable sign near the Chuck Wagon informing us when the ride is not open. Many times I've gone back there and it's down or not open yet. I know that's asking a lot for just a petty thing, it's just something that bugs me.
Actually, that would be a good location for a permanent sign directing people to Mean Streak.
Also, I've mentioned this before, they need to move the sign pointing to Blue Streak's entrance or maybe add another sign. It's amazing how many people come to the exit with the deer in the headlights look trying to find the entrance. Probably because it looks like an entrance, which it was at one time.
^^^ What's the "triangular bunny hops just down the Gemini midway??
Anyway the only sign I see relating to mean streak is that it's going to be torn down soon...:)
The triangular bunny hops would be those belonging to Magnum...
And there are really no signs that Mean Streak will be removed.... One of the main points made in this thread is that it is highly unlikely the ride will be removed any time soon given the fact that a brand new sign was just made for the coaster....

Maybe Mean Streak just needs a good retracking. That could be the "Big" new thing for 2009

Love the new sign! Did Mean Streak even have a sign though before??
This could possibly mean that during the off season Mean Streak will be getting some work done to it.
It's funny...
I've been studying wood coasters in more detail lately, and I think it is quite interesting what you can learn about a coaster by looking at things like the wear patterns in the track. Riding Mean Streak in the front seat, I can see all kinds of things that just don't look right, and I can tell you just from the appearance what is going on, and from a ride I can tell you what isn't happening the way it should. A classic example is when you see an inside guide rail that is all shiny and beaten up on a high speed curve, which means the train is going *too slowly* through the curve.
But if I can see this stuff from the front seat while the ride is running at full speed, why is it that the mechanics and carpenters don't seem to catch it when they are looking right at the thing?
My assumption has always been that because I am looking at the track, I am not seeing what the structure is doing, and presumably the Bad Things™ that I see are the "lesser of two evils" compared to what would happen to the structure if the ride were allowed to do what it should be doing. I assume they know the ride better than I do (after all, I have exactly 0 hours of experience maintaining wood coasters!). But it really is kind of amazing to see what things Mean Streak is doing, and to wonder why the park hasn't taken steps to correct it...

I'm wondering what makes you think someone else hasn't "caught it?"; althought I believe your assumption as to why is spot-on.
Some of you may remember the interview last season when Kinzel himself suggested that GCI may be called in to do some work on Mean Streak. Since there appears to be nothing new on the way for 2010, I hope that this is the case; then FT truly would be "complete" (at least for a decade or so).
I hope this is the "sign" we have been waiting for.
Promoter of fog.
Maybe that is what all of the fuss about Mean Streak was. On the earlier "Are they tearing Mean Streak down" thread, it was said that Dick Kinzel was talking to someone while pointing at MS. Maybe he was just showing them where to put the new sign. It does look nice though.
And as it has been said before, Magnum doesn't need a sign. If more people know where the entrance is, that means less ride time for us. ;)
"You wanna, you gotta, you hafta hold on, Cedar Point...HOLD ON!"
Maybe its a parting gift to Mean Streak before it goes bye bye. We can only hope. ;)
