Mean Streak Makeover

Demolished? A 45+ minute wait for the majority of the season (That's 1200+ people in line at a time) that must want to ride it, and that also means that there must be some that like it. I used to be a critic of Mean Streak, too. But, you really get to appreciate it after a few good rides. (And then you can better handle the more bumpy ones) :)

Ya know...I never thought I would say this but..

After riding The Villian, as far as I am concerned you can tear MS down and use it for firewood.

There are a LOT of woodies out there that blow Mean Streak away. Villain, Roar, Thunderbolt, Phoenix, Hurler, Grizzly... (I could keep going ;) )

But does that mean I want to see Mean Streak torn down? No. Fixed? Yes. Remove those trims on the first drop, retrack it PROPERLY (tighten down the tolerances on the track gauge, maybe? Wouldn't that eliminate all the shuffling through the curves?)

As long as Mean Streak has trains on it that can't go around flat curves, there are only two ways to eliminate the shuffling:

A) Eliminate the flat curves by insuring that all curves are banked. Mean Streak's train handles banked curves just fine, so long as the lateral alignment through the curve is a straight line.

OR...

B) Install a train which is capable of handling flat curves. See Hersheypark's Lightning Racer, Seabreeze's Jack Rabbit, PNE Playland's Coaster, Cedar Point's Cedar Creek Mine Ride, Gemini, Magnum XL-200, Corkscrew, Raptor, Mantis:TCFKAB, Millennium Force, and Woodstock Express for examples of how it might be done.

I refer you again to http://capital2.capital.edu/admin-staff/dalthoff/coastercar.html if you don't object to the shameless plug... :)

I firmly believe that MS can be renovated into a killer coaster that most people are happy with. Right now, it may not be the best woodie, but it's the best looking.
So Dave, you think Millennium Flyer trains would do well on Mean Streak? (wow, deja vu of this conversation...)

Actually, Natalie, I think they would. There are two features of the Millennium Flyer that would work well. First of all, they can track curves like you wouldn't believe. Partly that's because of the short wheelbase, and partly that is because each axle can move independently. Of course, the other feature of the Millennium Flyer is very nicely padded seats, something that Mean Streak could really use...a little sponge rubber can hide a multitude of sins. :)

Actually CP bound...after riding SOB, and beast this year I thought they were no were near as rough as MS. KI knows how to take care of their woodies.

i will agree that MS is one of the most beautiful coasters i've ever seen...it could use some work on the slowness of the first half but i still enjoy at least one ride on it every year.

Am i the only one that couldn't stand up and walk to the chiropractor after riding SOB and Beast? MeanStreak was a trip to a mesuse(sp?) compared to PKI's woodies... even racer cracked a few vertibres...

after my 2000 trip to KI, i have a whole new look on MS...
HA HA!
I had to miss a day of work after ridding the Beast and SOB this summer. My back started spazing in the last Beast tunnel, then stupid me, still had to go and ride the SOB. I would do it all over again!!! I was in the Army and then moved away from CP so I didnt ride the MS between 1993 and 2000. I was shocked at the present wimmpyness.

I rode the Texas Giant before the MS and thought they were very much alike.
