I have been a fairly outspoken critic of Mean Streak.
I rode it opening day.
My wife (a bigger critic than I ) also rode it.
We loved it.
What gives?
It was actually smooth. On our third ride, we actually had our arms up the whole way, and not only did it not feel as slow, but it actually felt smooth.
I could not believe the difference. Does anyone know why there is a difference? After last year (and yes, I was there when it opened and remember what it was like) we swore we would never ride it again. But we gave it one last try...
I talked with some people on the crew that are friends of my buddy. They said that they didn't touch the wood on the track this year at all. They did, however, switch to a different kind of lubricant. Not only that, but they actually greased it really well.
If you rode it at all, you saw the "patches" of graphite all over the ride.

Im still taken back by the ride. I hope others who had written it off (and believe me, I think I was its biggest critic) give it another try.
Its certainly not "back", but its certainly MUCH better. It keeps a higher rate of speed throughout, and it was not rough at all. (I cant believe I just said that).
Looking at the Coaster Rollback on coasterbuzz, Curtis Summers, who designed Mean Streak, died exactly one year to the day after Mean Streak opened. Thats kinda eerie.
I wonder if thats when CP announced they had put the first drop trims in?
Edit:---> Happy 15th Birthday to MeanStreak. I can't believe its been that long already. *** Edited 5/11/2006 12:34:25 PM UTC by JuggaLotus***
Goodbye MrScott

Anyone ever notice that at the beginning of every new season, this topic always comes up?
After riding opening day and tuesday, I would say that perhaps some people still have some winter coldness in their bodies and they are not fully receptive towards Mean Streak.
Seemed the same to me...

No there diffently was a difference to the ride. I enjoyed it for once! I think it is running 10 X smoother. Jugga- That is very eerie... as far has this subject being brought up over again every year, thats not true, because last year the even the "mean streakers" were complianing....haha.

I have to disagree. Every year we do the same thing...ride Mean Streak once....remember why we dont like it anymore, and never ride it again all season.
My wife disliked it even more than I...and even she couldnt believe how much she liked it.
Like I said, it will never be up to its "no trims" status, but it was definitely a better ride.
It is exactly the same yall!

Wooden rides are temperamental...all sorts of factors change the way a woodie acts.
Let's not forget that it's fresh off of winter maintenence either. Even if it's running better, however, it still doesn't change the fact that it's just a mediocre woodie. MS is not the worst ride of all time but I know with today's current woodies CP could do so much better. MS just doesn't have "classic" written on it, so why keep it? The overall sentiment toward rides like Magnum, Raptor, MF, etc. is very positive but the overall feeling of the average guest toward MS is negative.
This is why I'm still a little baffled WWL hit the road and not MS. I can't wait to see wht the park has in store for Frontiertown...
