Mean Streak

I know I'm probably gonna catch some slack for starting this little thread. But I gotta say something. I know a lot of people have been doggin the MS for a couple years now for being a tough ride. Yes it is. But has anyone ridden SOB @ PKI? OMG. What a back breaker. Even a classic like BD @ GL is a little more rough than expected (even with padded seats). But...those are wooden coasters. And that's what wooden coasters are. Rough, wild, and better with age like whiskey. I know MS isa little more than what some people would like to ride. But on the same note, BS is no big woop. Sure, some good air time, but no 4:00 ride time like MS. 4 mins is pretty cool. That's the joy of a woodie. It "beats you up". Coney Island's Cyclone doesn't get talked down because it's rought, it's praised as a great invention. Many followed, copied, and tried to be better; only a few are good, quality woodies. MS is one. Why? It's a good, long ride...and a woodie.

People have their own opinions per roller coaster. I like Mean Streak, and I believe that it doesn't deserve some of the criticism it gets for being "too rough." However, I must agree, those trim brakes on the first hill KILL the first drop and the rest of the ride. Nonetheless, that long ride through the woodwork is fun and anybody who thinks Mean Streak is coming down anytime soon is WRONG.

Hail to the Victors

The Boss at Six Flags Saint Louis is also very very rough, and in my opinion is an awesome ride. Mean Streak isn't even very rough compared to the Boss. I also think that Beast is very rough. The difference between the Beast and Mean Streak is comparible to that of the difference between Magnum and Millennium Force.

Its just that as wooden rollercoasters go, Mean Streak isn't very rough. I think the ride gets alot of negative attention due to the trim break on the top of the first hill; it really kills the ride.

While I'm on the topic of trim breaks killing a ride, I have ridden Magnum with and without the trim breaks after the third hill, and I have to say the ride without the trims was not only more fun, but felt much smoother. Cedar Point needs to lay off the trim breaks. Oh I forgot to mention Mantis.

For sure. I'd probably have enough to pick up a doughnut and coffee from Tim Hortons on my way to work in the morning.

You have a Tim Horton's on the way to work? That must mean you live... anywhere in Ontario. ;)

True story. First time my wife and I ventured a little further into Ontario than the touristy part of Niagara Falls, we discovered this neat little restaurant called... Tim Hortons. Being Americans, we had never heard of them. We went in, sampled the food, were reasonably impressed with the taste, pricing, and the actual use of silverware and real plateware.

The next time we went back, a year or two later, we wanted to go back to the same area. After a bit of driving around, we found "the" Tim Hortons. That is to say, we thought that because it was a TH it had to be the only one in existence. We based all of our additional driving on that postulate. Of course we got hopelessly lost.

Just in case anybody up in the Great White North felt like a little Dumb American humor. :)

What this has to do with coasters, I have no ideas. It's two-friggin' something in the morning, and I am loopy. Shoot me already.

BD is an awesome ride! I don't find it rough any where, it is non stop airtime!! It is what a woodie should be!

MS hasn't been a good ride since it's opening. A good woodie is defined by airtime (MS has 1 micro second of it) speed (just when MS starts getting fast and fun here comes some more brakes) and the word "ouch" usually isn't heard on a good woodie.
People aren't screaming with joy on MS, they are screaming in pain! :)

(However, if you want to hear screaming in agony, listen to anyone on Villian!! That coaster makes SOB, Cyclone and MS seem smooth as glass! It is really awful! :()

The only good thing MS has going for it is it's looks. Period.
How it ever got ranked a Top 10 Wooden Coaster only leads me to believe the list was ONLY 10 coasters, hense MS was last.

I must admit the best rides I ever had on MS was CoasterMania '01 - PM ERT was on MS in the dark. That was a blast!! :)

It's all about getting around the barrels, or over the fences, right leads, no faults, fastest time and looking pretty when done. What's so hard about that?

I drove right through Troy the other night on a way to a party. You should have said something earlier and you could have come and partied with us.

I dont think so. I am only 14 :).

Your a Cardinal's fan? I went to the game yesterday afternoon. Cubbies suck! Anyway Gary Bennett has been on fire the last 10 games. Who would have expected that?

In regards to Tim Horton's, I pass by two if I go the way I usually do, or I can pass by three if I go the other way. There are about 40 in and around Windsor.

Bow down, Bow down before the power of Santa, or be crushed, be crushed by----- his Jolly boots of Doom.

Coming Soon! Star Wars episode 7- The Fallen Hero
episode 8- The Republic in Crisis
episode 9- Victory of the Force

The Villian is much worse than Mean Streak. I am a CP season pass holder and went to GL for the first time this past weekend and I must say wow. I never thaught I would find a coaster much more painful then MS or SOB. We made the mistake of riding in the last seat too. Ouch!

That's sad to hear. When The Villian first opened, it was one of my favorite woodies. Sucks to hear its gone downhill. :(

Well its a coaster isnt it of course its gonna come downhill. ;)
