Mean Streak

I rode this coaster on my trip to Cedar Point and this wooden coaster looked amamzing, but it just didn't seem to have any speed to it. During the first hill, it seemed as though brakes were applied, but maybe this was my imagination. The coaster looks great and I wanted to enjoy it but was really rough and slow. The only other wooden coaster I have ridden was Timber Wolf at World's of Fun, its rough too, but seemed to have more speed to it than Mean Streak. How come it doesn't seem like that fast of a ride when it looks great in the park?

Well, the meanie used to be a great ride in the 90's then it just got slower and rougher. If you ride in the front seat, the train is smooth and fun.

So are there brakes applied at the first hill to slow it down a bit? Just wondering.

i would have to say yes...i did ride in the front seat yesterday, MUCH smoother and more enjoyable than any other ride i've ever had...but as soon as we made the first hill it did feel like we hit some brakes...

There are brakes on the first hill of Mean Streak. There were some design flaws in the original ride design. The solution to be able to keep the ride running was to slow the ride down.

We need a Eltoro type of coaster!!

Wow, I never knew that about the design flaws, but the brakes still take away that drop feeling that a coaster is meant to have. At least the rest of the ride is long, though.

If those trims weren't on the first hill the coaster would be terribly rough.

^I would rather have a rough fun ride than a rough boring one.

Welcome, everyone, to thread number 5,678 about Mean Streak.

It still sucks.

Promoter of fog.

^ Lol, turn. Well, I don't think it sucks, but it's just plain rough (but not when your in the front seat). The front seat trick does help, so sit there if you want a better ride.

Mean Streak is fast and all in the drops, however the trims have ruined the turns, the first turn for example is highly banked but you just fall to one side of the train. Son Of Beast is a much smoother ride and the banked turns actually work as they were meant to. I also enjoy the beast and blue streak.

Mean Streak is amazing, and i would not want to see it razed, but i do believe it could use a retracking. However, i don't see cedar point retracking something they dumped money into already.

I like Mean Streak even though it's not that great.I still like Blue Streak a whole lot more. The thing is though every time I look at Mean Streak I can't help but to think, what kind of barn I could build with all that lumber.
