Mean Streak - reProfile/ Practical? Possible?

I don't have a problem with the layout and you'll never hear me say that it's to rough. What we all want is for this thing to start performing up to its potential. The MS is capable of more than we're getting out of it. If that means making a slight modification or two then so be it.

It seems pretty apparent though, that the front office at CP, either doesn't feel or doesn't care that they have a problem with this ride. Do they?

While I would love to see CP modify MS and make the second half more exciting, I don’t see it happening.  There is no up-side to CP spending money on MS (unless they can lower their maintenance costs).  I can just see the ad’s – ‘Ride the New and Improved Mean Streak – 20% faster with 10% less shaking”

Even though MF has more track length than MS, the MS circuit also takes almost 2 minutes more to complete.  Only one train running on MS would kill capacity, therefore it IS impractical to remove the midcourse trims.  I personally like Joe E.'s idea the best :)

As for the two trains crossing right after the first drop, that happens with me the majority of the time.  In fact I'm pretty disappointed when it doesn't happen.  I hate to say it, but it really is one of the only cool sensations during the whole ride.

Don't remove the mid-course brakes, just run them wide open.

Here is my idea. Reprofiling, while possible, is hardly practical, at least in the grand sense, However, I think some modifications could be made to the first high turn around precluding the need to "chop up" the rest of the ride. I can see where the second half might be marginally interesting with a little bit of speed; therefore, I think a way to preserve more speed in the first half of the ride is necessary. The only way I can fathom this occurring is via a reprofile of the first turn and a subsequent removal of the drop trims. On a side note, something similar had to be done to SOB, making me think that it is a viable option. Here is where the problem lies--why spend money fixing somthing than runs fine and puts riders through? Most of the public is indiscriminant towards coastering and thinks everything feels the same. Apropos to that, most of the public can't tell how crappy the ride truly is--they'll just ride it because it is big and scary looking. With this in mind, is spending money on a reprofiling project really worth it?

If nothing else, CP seems to be getting the hint that the trims on the first drop have to go or least be open all the time. I would bet huge bucks that given the choice between rollbacks and NO rollbacks, CP would chose no. They have to be a pain in the ***.

A bigger pain is having to constantly beat the track gauge back into shape up the first drop. There are times where you can see the entire train make a violent shift up the second hill, one car at a time. I'm guessing that's from the sloppy track gauge.

Would it be safe to say that that is the major reason the trims are there? If so, what can they do? I hope it's not a chose your poison kind of a deal. Take your pick; Beat up track gauge or rollbacks.

...they could replace the trains with more articulate ones...

I'm pretty sure that would help the track gauge problem, the trim brake couldn't be removed, and the ride would be smoother and faster.

That's what I said!!

Yeah, well I was just trying to put some emphasis on that idea. :)
I rode Mean Streak 3 times yesterday, and they were pretty good rides.

My first ever night ride was last night. It was a great ride filled with strong laterals and some airtime as well.

If only it would run like that all the time...
