Alex Bevan has a song about Mayfly Stew, maybe a new menu item for Chuckwagon?
I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.
Pretty sure that has always been the "beef substitute" used in the Beef Stew.

I was there tonight and they weren't bad at all. I got pelted by a few bugs on the front seat of Raptor around 9PM. I hardly saw any mayflies at all.

There were a fair amount of them at Soak City Tuesday evening. I was bored waiting for my kids while I was in the wave pool so for the heck of it I tried to drown some mayflies just to see how that would go. Those suckers don't go down easy.
As I make like Shawn and resurrect a dead thread...
How bad are the bugs this year? Just so I know how many extra shirts to pack so I don't have to walk around completely splattered.

Mayflies were out Wednesday night pretty bad, not horrible.
It's been my experience for four years before this last (when I moved family weeklong stay to July because of mayflies) that the week of June 20 was extremely bad for those four years.
I'm sure it moves around and is weather dependent.

I haven't had a bad day for bugs in the park yet this year but driving home about a week or two ago was horrible. You could see the swarms like black clouds above the tree line as we got on Rt 2 at Rye Beach and at several points driving past Huron the bug swarms splattering on my windshield sounded like heavy rain. I had to completely scrub the front of my van the next day and the smell of the rotting dead bugs on my van was attracting flies. It was nasty.
Can someone explain the difference between a mayfly and a mufflehead? And when they typically appear?
I was there the 2nd week after opening and they were pretty bad. I noticed them covering certain walls, hovering around lights, and my favorite, hanging around the Sky Ride cable waiting for unsuspecting, trapped passengers. They were also pretty thick at CP's Express.
I went to the park last week, Tuesday and Wednesday, and I was braced for the worst. (I was the OP on this thread about bugs, and looking back I see my visit was June 24.) This time there were hardly any bugs. Well, I take that back. I had three great nighttime rides on Magnum and on the dark turnaround, with an empty train ahead of me, I got hit in the face pretty hard. But that was it.
I assumed due to the recent heat they'd finally had it and went away for good. Maybe not.

Just in time for me going up day after tomorrow. XD Extra shirts, keep to the back of the train, especially at night.

Stayed at Sadcastle (ugh) Sun-Thur, Tuesday mayflies rolled in late after park close, not horrible amount at that time, Wednesday much less.

On Saturday I didn’t go to the park but I went to Put In Bay and Kelly’s Island. The bugs were awful at Put In Bay but Kelly’s Island was much more manageable. I didn’t even notice them one bit at the dock in Sandusky. So the further out you are from the main land, the worse they seem to get. I remember days when you couldn’t even read gatekeeper’s giant sign above the giftshop. It was disgusting.
SV ruins all other rides.
