May Visiting

Hey, my names Mary, I'm going to be visiting the point on May 16th, 2001, a Wendsday. I was wondering if any of you beginning-of the season visitors could tell me what to expect- I've been there many times as a resident to Brunswick, Ohio, but never in May. Anything would be appreciated, thanks,

Should be pretty light seeing how 90% of the high schools in teh area are still in school.

May be kinda cool, although, I've gone in May before in shorts. Personally, I'd wear something warm, but bring a change of clothes just in case. It can go either way.

Most schools go on Fridays in June! The YMCA Leaders club from around the state go on the Saturday following most schools are out! I know because I've pulled two days!!!!

A lot of schools have outing's there in May. It's still less crowded than August. I think May is the best time to go. Last year we were able to walk right on to serveral rides. Bring extra clothes. It can go from nice to cold really quick. The wind off the water in May can really drive the temp down quickly. Plan on staying until closing time if you want to get the most rides. Most people leave when it starts to get cold. Schools usually leave early too. It's the perfect time to ride the rides that usually have long lines.

Jeff-
lol closing time is barely @ dark this May. so just enter the longest line ,if there is one, right before closing time.(come to think of it, i doubt if it is dark at 8 in ohio mid may is it?)

Well, Physics day is the 17th, and I was there the day before physics day last year. Besides the Force, everything else was pretty much a walk on. One Train operations all over the place. Walk on being a 5 minute wait for Magnum.

LOL thanks guys for all the info-ive learned by now to defiantly bring extra clothes. another question, will cedar point ever close the whole park if there's bad rain in the morining? thanks

Nope. There are signs at the entrance with the forecast and a warning about the weather (if it is supposed to rain). They don't close the park. Some rides may not operate if lightning is around. I think the best time to go is in the afternoon, after the rain has stopped. A lot of people won't spend the money for a ticket if it's raining in the morning. Crowds are light all day. You can ride a lot on those days. *** This post was edited by jeffgn on 3/6/2001. ***
I've actually spent days IN the park during thunder storms... GREAT day to catch all the shows.. and get to know some of your ride op's and Live E people.....

Not to mention water fights in the Mantis line once everyone else left after 1 1/2 hours of rain. Nothing funnier than the Mantis crew, up on the platform, helping you find people to get them wet and cheering you on..

Hey I was there that day! It was a wicked storm that passed through the Point. Actually, I believe it was 3 storms that came through, but the first was the worst!

i can also still remember being the first people on MS right after they opened it..still raining..owies that hurt but it was really fun anyways ;)
ps people, do you think if im visiting in may its nessary for me to get there at 9 and go right to MF for a wait under 2 hours? thanks
mary

Yes, if you go to the Marina Entrance, and run (or even walk) you can defiantly get a wait under two hours. I did that once in August and got a 15 minute wait after running, while my Mom and dad got a 45 minute wait after walking. So you'll most likely get under two hour.

In July, my friend and I moderately ran and only waited 45 minutes.
Funny that you mention it, but Knott's closes if there is "bad" rain in the morning. Anything but sunshine is bad to Southern Californians. :)
Hey all--two points to make on this topic:
1. Thank goodness I made reservations for May 15th and May 16th and not May 17th (physics day). I am taking may parents to the Point for their first trip in over ten years and there would surely be problems if they had to face long lines and lots of chatting teens. Not that there is anything wrong with chatting teens but well, you know how older parents can be (if you can call 55 and 56 old).
2. When do they start to use the ticket system for Millenium Force? Is it in effect in mid-May or not? I guess we cannot really say for sure since the system really was not put in place until later on last season. I do not think it would make sense to have the system in place in mid-May when the crowds are pretty low but who knows?
Oh well, just thought I would share those thoughts.....

God I hope not. With a 3 train operation the line for the Force should be right around an hour I'm guessing and there's no excuse to even Use TTR.

I was there on June 14th too.. Just looked at my calender.. That MAY have been the day of the Mantis water fight...
