May Crowds

I'm planning a visit to the Point either the first or second week of park operation in May, it will either be a Wednesday or a Thursday. I was wondering if any of you had any suggestions on which week and/or day could be the best based on crowds, special events etc. I know its impossible to predict lines and the crowds etc. But I am just curious based on previous years what the crowds were on those weeks and what your personal perfrence would be. Thanks.

Second week of operation is generally pretty dead Tues/Weds... could pick up a bit on Thurs, but nothing like a weekend in July.

The only problem that I see, other than unpredictable weather that time of year, is that during the week in May, many coasters will run with one or maybe two trains. This in turn can make a short line seem longer. Other than that, a Wednesday or Thursday would typically be slow for that time of year.
I'm planning on going the second week Fri-Sun. I heard last year most of the rides were a walk-on but Dragster had a huge line. Anybody remember?

Honestly, if we gave away our secrets to small crowd days, we'd end up with huge crowds on those days... ya catch my drift?

According to Cedar Point, middle-of-the-week days are the best days to go, for smaller crowds, and more "ride time" than weekends. But honestly, go when you feel like going, because then it's more enjoyable for you.

Plus, when it's crowded, you make friends in the queue lines.

Only bad thing about going during the week in May is the hords of obnoxious elementary school and junior high kids that go to CP as a school fieldtrip. They make up for most of the crowd on those days.

But the nice thing about those first few weeks is you don't have ppl walking around in outfits that don't "fit" them.
To go along with IheartTC, the biggest drawback of May is the school field trips. If you are patient with kids, then go for it, and if they are getting on your nerves, keep in mind that the school trips usually leave a couple hours before the park closes, so you should have a little pre-teen free time.

If you go in may, DONT go on the thursday that is pyshics day. Went last year on that day and the coaster lines were rather long until about 6pm when all the kiddies had to leave on the busses.
I hate physics day! All day long these kids just kept asking me ride stats. Very annoying!

i remember that day when i worked giant wheel in '86. they sat all day and watched it turn.......
Well, I must confess I am surprised this topic has ALREADY appeared. I have once again for the FIRST of many times dusted off the Annual "What will the crowd level be on fill in the blank date.

Please feel free to read at your convenience and refer to when you are planning your trip to the park.

IT IS NEAR IMPOSSIBLE TO "PREDICT CROWD LEVELS"...Please let's refrain from a whole bunch of "What will the crowd be like on fill in the blank date"

Now for my annual crowd level rant (someday I'll save this from the previous year or have Jeff put it in the Feature Section of the site)

Anyhow,

NO ONE KNOWS WHAT THE CROWD BE ON A SPECIFIC DAY, HOWEVER THERE ARE SOME BASIC PRINCIPLES WHICH CAN BE USED TO "PICK" THE BEST DAY FOR YOUR VISIT.

1. Start by checking the Cedar Point operating schedule. If the park closes at 8:00p.m. it isn't because the midway is jammed with people. Lower hours of operation meaans LOWER CROWD LEVELS.

2. Busiest time of the year is from July 4- Mid- August. Notice the longer hours of opertion during this time.

3. Basically, all things being equal (ie DRY WEATHER) here is a breakdown of the Busiest days in order...Saturday, Wednesday/Monday/Friday/Thursday/Tuesday/Sunday. There are exception to this "rule" if it RAINS...if it rains on one day, the NEXT DRY day will see a bump in attendance.

4. This is a "tip" for people who plan a day trip and are trying to find a goodtime to go. WATCH THE WEATHER FORECAST IN THE MORNING FOR DETROIT AND CLEVELAND, if it is RAINING and looks like it won't be an ALL DAY rain...GO to the PARK...Don't waste time get there...CP will be"empty" that day. The two key markets for CP, Detroit and Cleveland, both being just a few hours or less away, are directly effected by the early morning weather in each city. I am sure there is more than one person on this board who heard Mom or Dad say at nighttime, "If it's nice in the morning we are going to CP", if it was raining the next morning, the family would wait until the next day to then go to CP, hence the "bump" in attendance on the first dry day after rain.

Hopefully you can make sense of this infomation and make and educated guess on the crowd level. Even if you go to CP during a "Busy Time" CP is staffed to handle the crowd levels throughout that period. There have been a few blips to this "system" over the past few years, Closing Day in 2001(?) comes to mind...it was an incredibly nice day in October and EVRYONE seemed to have the same idea of one last coaster ride. But for the most part this will help you.

Don't fall prey to "other websites" which claim the have "crowd predictors" or other fancy gizmos.

Most of all remember ANY DAY AT CP IS BETTER THAN BEING AT WORK.
