Maverick original pov

I am new to this and not sure if you talked about this before but has anyone noticed that Maverick's orginal pov was actually supposed to have way more scenery and a heartline roll?

It WAS!? That's it, I'm not renewing my platinum pass for next year. I feel so ripped off.

And they didn't even give people front of the line passes for removing it.

Alex - long story short on the heartline roll. The ride was originally built with it in place. At some point during testing, Sandor Kernacs (president of Intamin) went for a test ride, got done with the ride and told them to remove the heartline roll. He was the only one to ever ride it.

I thought the story was that after measuring the forces on the train in the heartline roll, Cedar Point decided the wear and tear on the trains was too much and decided to change it. The controversy was more on how Intamin came up with the replacement piece so fast.

As for the theming, there was certainly grief over it. There is certainly some debate over whether an animation POV and/or mock-up images are promises of what the actual results will be. I think somewhere it was stated that Maverick was intended to have more theming, but those plans were cut back at some point.

I was under the impression Sandor was the only one to ride it like John said. Basically the forces in the heartline roll were too much.

Riding the ride in its current form, I'm not so sure I'd have liked the heart line roll at the base of that drop. That thing just screams through there, and it's so intense, that I think the ride would have actually been hindered by it.

I always thought a heartline roll at the top of the hill following the tunnel launch would have been sweet.

"move this piece here...this piece there..."

Now that's an idea I can get behind!

The roll was not "too much" for humans. All of that had been simulated and calculated in computers long before someone picked up a blowtorch. What was a problem is that the wear and tear on the wheel axles was a bit more than the manufacturer was comfortable with. Mind you, that seems strange to me, but on the surface the wheel assemblies look like the only thing Intamin did not overcomplicate. While they could have reengineered them, you'd have a one-off ride with parts that weren't compatible with the hundred other rides that use the same system, so I suppose they did the right thing.
