The coaster in Japan with the only "banana roll" in existence was really different. I liked the new style train it used as well. And that final section with the vertical lift, and steepest drop in the world had my votes to win - just based on it's originality and backward design (big drop at the end). I was also impressed on how clean the inside parts of the ride were. Also -The station and tunnels were clean and almost spotless of debris.
While Maverick and Volcano are indeed great coasters, they are pretty standard in design components, and Volcano seemed to have way more support structure than track. Given the target audience, and the unscientific voting (they really don't give you much information on how they arrive at their final score - i.e. # of voters, category weighting, etc.), they should could scrap the whole rating part and show another coaster in that window of time.

Takabisha's price tag was $36 Million, it was designed by the park, and a single ride on it costs $12.50 (that's after you pay the standard park admission).
It's really hard to justify how Maverick and Volcano could ever beat out a 100MPH, world record drop angle, and unique banana element coaster without some sort of bias though.
There's no way Maverick should've been on the show in the first place let alone win that battle. I like the way the kid told his dad it wasn't that great! You can tell a good coaster when you see everyones hands up in the air throughout the ride, and you never see that on Maverick, maybe 1 or 2 people. When they get rid of those pos restraints and put lapbars on it then it may be considered a top coaster!
Nope, just like the stupid Golden Ticket Awards.
Favorite Wood: 1. Balder (Liseberg), 2. Boulder Dash (Lake Compounce), 3. Voyage (Holiday World), 4. Phoenix (Knoebels) 5. The Beast (Kings Island)
FavoriteSteel:1.Expedition GeForce (Holiday Park) 2. Rita (Alton Towers) 3.Magnum XL-200 (CP) 4. Nemisis (Alton Towers) 5. X (SFMM)
Well, when a park solicits votes for various awards on their blogs, announces filming schedules in advance, and hypes new attractions to the nth degree one has to wonder how the voting is tabulated.
Let's wait and see what wins when Gatekeeper is in the mix. I would lay odds it wins that night (unless it competes with three other CP coasters).
It doesn't shock me that Cedar Point is involved in so many of the coaster wars, but they seem to be involved to a point where other cedar fair parks are very rarely included. The only other cedar fair property I remember being featured was kings island for the beast. Six flags on the other hand features coasters from a variety of its parks. I might be completely wrong but that was the impression I got from the 5 or so episodes that I have seen.
Top Steel: New Texas Giant
Top Wood: Timberwolf (don't judge me..)
^Not true if I remember correctly Volcano and I305 (Kings Dominion) Diamondback, Vortex and the Beast (Kings Island) Hydra (Dorney Park) Leviathen (Canadas Wonderland) Afterburn and Intimidator (Carowinds) have all been featured.
The green train from Millennium landed under Magnum and that is what is causing Magnum to sink!!!
