Matterhorn lap bars

I remember goig to CP last year and riding mtterhorn and the lap bars didnt stay down and you could even lift them up during the ride. Has anyone got hurt because of that? Why doesnt CP fix it?

You don't fix what's not broke!
The trick to the Matterhorn is that gravity holds you in at all times. The entire premise of the ride is to give you that "positive G" feeling so it would require a very deliberate force to lift a person from a seat. The bars are simply there to hold on to.

I'm trained on the Matterhorn Triangle (Matterhorn, Scrambler, Dodgem) and can tell you JayDubs is right. The ride is a centrifuge. Lateral G-Forces cause the car to swing to the perpendicular position. Due to these forces, it is nearly impossible for the bar to be lifted.

They should take the bars off, that would make it more scarier and funner.

It's really strange that a certain other park in Northern Ohio felt the need to install seatbelts ON the lap bars of their Matterhorn ride last season. All that does is slow down the already slow loading process and confuses guests after the ride is over. As was mentioned above, the bar is virtually impossible to lift while the ride is spinning.

Oh, it's quite easy to lift the bar when the ride is spinning. Not that it would accomplish much; the rider still isn't going anywhere (relative to the seat).

The down side (for some) to that is that because the lap bars don't latch, the Matterhorn will not, has not, shall not, and never has run backwards. Running backwards adds a motion that can fling the rider out of the seat, and that's why the Flying Bobs/Thunderbolt and the SchlittenFährt have latching lap bars.

The lap bars do not lock, once again the lap bars do not lock!!

I noticed that on my first spin on Matterhorn about a week and a half ago. I feel bad for the ride-op, because he has to keep telling people like me that the bars don't lock!

Its strange that there is a ride there w/o locking lap bars, since the park is known for having more redundancy when it comes to restraints than Microsoft has bugs in its software.
