matterhorn, dodgem minor complaint

jimmyburke's avatar

This may seem like a trivial complaint to some, but here it is. I wish they would find a more appropriate location for that garbage can at the top of the stairway on the platform before the ride host assigns your seat. It wasn't there last few years, I believe it and the turnstile were located at the bottom at entrance to ride. Where it is this year is an area that riders congregate at when waiting and many times children will be leaning against it, looking into it, etc... yuk! No matter how clean they may try to keep it, it is still a garbage can. If they need it to block that space, maybe they can use something else. I realize that often people waiting in line have food, beverages, other unmentionable waste items that may need disposed of, but the OCD in me cringes when I see people unwittingly leaning on that can. I have read on here that CP possibly reads these posts so I hope they can give this some thought. As long as I am venting, if you are choosing a car at Dodgem, select one with a shiny black steering wheel or else you will get your hands filthy with orange rust.

Thanks

Email the park on their main page (contact us) about this. They do care and will review your concerns. Just be sure and mix some nice compliments in there also. I've gotten many responses back over the last few years in my feedback about park scenery and food service. Good luck.

People putting waste inside of a garbage can makes the outside of the garbage can unsanitary... how, exactly?

^You're really asking this? Name one garbage receptacle of any kind that you'd be willing to rest your hand on, then grab a hot dog and eat.

What happened to this world? I remember my brother, sister and I digging through garbage cans at Kings Island to get souvenir cups when we were younger. We all seemed to turn out pretty good:)

I imagine the outside (or inside) of a garbage can is really no worse germ wise than a handrail or lapbar.

Every door handle, lap bar, turnstile, faucet, drinking fountain, handrail, seat belt and arcade joystick is going to have a far greater amount of 'contamination' since they are constantly being touched. A trash can just sits there; as it turns out, throwing a plate of nachos into it does not make the outside of it dirty. You can tell since the trash is, you know, on the inside.

I'm not a doctor or anything, but I'm relatively sure a person cannot get sick by leaning against or looking into a trash can. Maybe you can call the CDC to verify that.

Well, I'm suddenly hungry...

More people have touched that lapbar on Matterhorn and that steering wheel on Dodgem than have touched that garbage can.

Wash your hands before you eat. Didn't your mother teach you anything?

The garbag can is there for a reason. Food/Drink is not permitted in the ride area, but is allowed while waiting in the queues. Therefore if you have unfinished/finished items, they can be thrown away prior to riding

Almost every ride has this as well.

^Agreed thedevariouseffect... I know for sure Raptor has always had one by their turnstile before you entered the platform. No food/drinks allowed past the turnstile....

I'd much rather they put an additional ride op on the aforementioned rides to speed up cycle time. It is ridiculous sometimes. Adding insult to injury is the fact that the ride ops are excessively slow at going about their jobs. Why is it the ops on Magnum fly down the row checking belts but it takes gomer pile 10 minutes to circle Matterhorn?

Actually, I know the answer to that, but I fail to see how someone could intentionally be so slow as some of these folks.

Matterhorn normally has two ride ops, one in controls and another to check restraints. However Matterhorn also has to staff Scrambler and Dodgem, as well as supply employees for breaks through the day....Being post regular season the ride is probably short staffed and is not filling an ideal schedule, or like I have had to do before post season, fill in on the ride for the day when you're normally at another ride (for instance one of my friends from Iron Dragon was working triangle that weekend)

Well, if Magnum doesn't dispatch in time it causes a very uncomfortable stop for the train coming out of the tunnel. And (I think, could be wrong) requires someone to walk out to the safeties to reset.

If Matterhorn is slow in cycling, nothing bad happens.

Load 2 can now release safeties from their dispatch enable panel with the guy in controls...it still causes a very abrupt stop, but also can cause a safety issue on cold days with wind, slow trains, and no weight...train has a possibility of rolling back into the tunnel...very rare almost never, but it can...

The stop is what you'll fear, that stuff sucks

I got the safety stop on Saturday. My 6 year old daughter was caught off guard and slammed her head forward, thankfully she's short enough it doesn't reach the front of the cabin.

To the point about being short staffed, I get it, but that still doesn't excuse the lethargic movement and total lack of interest in doing one's job in a quick and efficient manner.

I too have learned about the hard stop. My kids are now trained to brace themselves comng out of the tunnel.

^^Again...1 Understaffed...2 Working a ride you're not normally assigned to...Not going to be as quick as people mid July when they've been working that ride for weeks/months all the time now...

Also if it's too slow, try Super Himalaya, quicker cycle, and larger capacity...same experience and same music
