Marina enterance sculpture?

I e-mailed CP with this question but they haven't responded. I'm sure their busy and all. But does anyone know about that brass sculpture of that guy with the harmonica at the marina enterance. Is it left over from when the park had several sculptures? It's a odd question I know but I've alway's thought that sculpure was cool. I can't find any pictures of it on the net and just thought someone might know about it. I use to work there and I stayed at cedars. He greated me everyday with his calm, relaxed disposition. :)

I’m fairly certain there is a plaque in front of the statue. It reads something like....This is the original entrance to Cedar point, where ferry boats would take patrons from the coast and dock here at Cedar Point. When getting off the boats, this statue and walkway would great them and lead them into the park.

Judging by the whole “feel” of the area (with mature trees and brass/iron fixtures), that is probably the same walkway patrons used since the 1900’s. My guess is that statue was erected their in the Boeckling era and has been there ever since.

That was my zone and I walked by the the thing 1000 times so I hope i'm right ;).

Thanks for directing me to the pictures Walt! I don't know why I didn't check there.
Joe E... You know I didn't remember a plaque in front of that. I remember all the other signs around the park.... coaster fact signs, the conference center Helen Keller spoke at, and all those ones but somehow I missed that one. Thanks you guys. I did know that all the visitors arrived by boat right about there before the first road was built but for some reason I never stopped to think that that was the main enterance. Cool I'm glad I asked.

There's a sign a little further down the walkway. It has a picture of an old ferry boat at the dock. I have a picture of it, but it's from too far away to read the words.

I heard that in 07 they're going to replace it with a statue of Kinzel holding Snoopy's hand.

I always though that was "mercury" and I also thought he came with all the other metal pieces from the worlds fair in chicago - like those big urns on the midway - thats what I was told years ago

I posed for that creation back in the '70's. It's me.

Never used the Marina entrance before. I guess that would explain why I had no idea this sculpture was there.

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.

The Marina entrance is a great entrance to use if you are a resoet guest. Just have the shuttle take you there.

I wish I would have known/thought of that when I stayed there last summer. I will be sure to take advantage of that this summer.

You can also walk there from the main parking lot.
