Marching bands?

Does anyone know if there is a certain schedual or period of time during the season that the marching bands make their rounds through the park.
Also if there just from one school or different ones.

I particularly enjoyed it when they started the day off, the times I've seen them, they were really good and seemed to really get into it.

Just wondering.

Any school can perform on the midway. It's part of the group sales program. They can pick any day of the operating season (assuming there is an opening), but they perform in the morning.

We'll be there sometime in May on a crowded Saturday afternoon. :) I think last year specifically we had a 9:30 time slot.

Thanks for the quick answer! Cool.

I've always enjoyed the HS Bands. I've seen them more at the beginning of the season (and day--as Walt mentioned), than anytime else.

Oh gosh.

I spent two years leading those bands through the park. (Well...one year leading them, one year telling other people to...)

There is really no 'upper limit' to the number of bands that come per day. If I remember correctly, they are all supposed to be done by 12:00 PM, so if a band is late, it's too bad. There were times where we had (honestly!) ten bands in one morning.

It was normally pretty cool...the smaller bands were usually more fun, less attitude.

The worst times where when there was a "travel agent" that wasn't technically affiliated w/ the band, but was put 'in charge.' They often sucked. Well, they ALWAYS sucked.

The bands ranged from REALLY good to REALLY laughable. I remember there was even one band who played really akward instruments not normally found in a marching band.

Once...a flag girl broke a light under the roof of Centennial Theater. From the on, we had to pay close attention during that spot.

During HalloWeekends, the route is changed a bit because of the haunted house...we enter through a different gate.

Also, once a band left without us, and went on the wrong side of the Midway. That was not cool.

One of the worst things was when people wouldn't listen to us saying "PLEASE MOVE OVER FOR THE BAND!" We wouldn't stop!! We'd just keep moving through them. :) Hehe....

It was fun, but boy am I glad I don't lead bands anymore. Especially in the rain. (One good thing....when it rains, the bands do not HAVE to march.)

Nothing in the world worse than marching in the rain, but thanks to all the crazy diehards we still do it. :(

Whatever happened to the crazy band that used to roam CP? Does anyone else remember this? It was a guy with a snare drum, a bass drum, a trumpet or two, and maybe a could trombones, and I think they played anything from ragtime to pop...but they were HILARIOUS...

I was a little tike back then, but I always loved seeing them walk around. Anyone know what became of them?

I remember those at Valleyfair! a sister park. I thought they were kinda dumb. I didn't really get it. I was little then also. Anyway...Great! I'm glad they haven't stopped having them. *** Edited 2/18/2006 10:53:35 PM UTC by lifesgood***

Awww I'm gonna miss marching :( We always marched on the Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend. usualy the first or second band of the morning, we'd have the whole day to have fun!! Minus 4 years ago when there was a tornado and we were stuck back in frontier town. But that was still and adventure!! Yay Wickliffe Swing Band!

When our band goes we usually go sometime in May and usually in the morning that way you get the rest of the day in the park.

Well that's debatable.....Last time I checked, music education wasn't about dancing..... :)

I would have thrown down my instrument and laughed at my director if he told me to march in that. I'm not exactly a shining example of dedication when it comes to marching band. Maybe for a baseball game or a golf match, but not marching band.

I did the marching band when I was in middle school.

I'm in the high school band now. We're a competitive marching band, and our director sees a Cedar Point performance as something for the average hot dog half-time show marching band.

Of course, me being the coaster nut, I disagree and try to start a CP trip every year. At this point, I'm a Junior and I'm still unsuccessful.

I think CP should get more into parades, then get rid of that ugly screen! ;)

Bedford High School may make an appearence in the future. Not this summer, but maybe 2007. I'm the head drum major for next season so I intend on brining it up as a suggestion. We'd probably go this summer, however we're going to Florida in April so I dont think anyone is going to want to dish out more cash.

Anyone remember the opening day band parades they used to have back in the 60's? It was a true parade, with maybe 20 or so bands marching.
