Maps of the Point.

So, the CP map on their website kind of, well, sucks. A lot.

So I'm wondering if anyone here knows of somewhere to get a better map of the park, or ANYTHING that could be helpful to someone going for the first time, with no idea of where anything is, or any idea how big the park is.

Thanks.

they give you a map when you pay for parking, its that simple!
Well, the Cedar Point map (I think the one you get at the park is the same one on the website) is much better than other park maps I've seen (hint: BGW). I can find my way around the park using this map, even though it's not exactly proportionate.
I think the CP map's pretty good for a first-timer. I can't really see how they could make it any better without making it bigger. It's fun to look at and very informative!

Smoking Marijuana isn't a bad thing or even a good one, like everything else, its what you make of it.

Well for some of the rides do you really need a map. I mean half the Roller Coasters are sticking straight into the air and it's not very hard to find them. :-D

The layout of the park is fairly simple too. It's shaped kind of like a tennis racket. I remember when I was at SF Great America several years ago the layout was very confusing. It's like you can be right next to a ride but have to walk a long way to actually get to it. At CP, it's pretty easy to find your way around, especially with one of the maps they give you.

Speaking of maps, how long has CP been doing the poster sized souvenir map? I never paid attention before, but now, I have started collecting and framing them. I have 2003 and 2004, which is a start, but if they go back quite a long time, I'd be interested in getting some of those as well. I haven't seen any for sale on Ebay though. If in fact they do go back a few years and people have extras, I'd be willing to play Let's Make a Deal. :)

You missed out on a mint conditioned 1986 souvenir map on Ebay about a week ago. I can't remember the exact final price, but I think the map was about $12-15. I didn't win it. :(
I had one from the last year I worked there (1974). I think it cost 50 cents. During one of the moves that my ex-wife supervised it came up missing. I've been trying to replace it ever since.

The maps of the 1970's and 80's are really cool. I love to study them and think of how much the park has developed over the years.
Does anyone have pictures of these maps from the 70's and 80's? I remember on Virtual Midway I saw some really old brochures, but I don't remember seeing maps. I also agree the CP layout is the most convinient, but the only thing I dislike, not that big of a deal though, is the dead-end near MF. I remember the first time I went to the point, a couple yrs ago, I decided to walk to the back of the park and hit the dead end. Now I know not to make a left past Mantis if I want to head back;).

Thanx, mistynate. Wow, I was just looking at some from the 80's, and I don't know if I could get around just using the map! Each midway is all in one color, so the paths are kinda hard to see. It's more formal looking, though.

I take that back. 1989 is alright, 1988 is kinda hard to see. *** Edited 8/2/2004 3:56:51 AM UTC by sean_s_eagle***

Off the topic, but there's some great stuff in those old brochures too. That is an awesome page.

Sadly I remember seeing park maps from the late 70s and early 80s that we got but they were thrown out. Someone still has to have these laying around. Postcards are always great for getting old views of the park too. Those seem to be a lot more common than park maps to find.
The map that's on the site, if it IS the same one they give you at the park..

..do they at least give you a "legend" or give the rides a number and then place that number on the map?

'Cause that'd be peachy, even if the map kinda sucks.

The maps given out at the park are more detailed than the online map. Relax, you will find your way around the park. It couldn't be easier to navigate Cedar Point.
I remember looking at those old brochures that Walt had on Virtual Midway too. I thought he would've brought them over to PointBuzz but i can't find them. Does anybody know where they are, or have a link to them? Walt, can you help me out?

Also, sean_s_eagle, can you share the link to those maps?

I'm working on a way to temporarily bring back everything from the Virtual Midway history section ... at least until the new history site goes up during the off-season.

With any luck, I'll have it up this week.

It's been a stressful summer for all of us - lots going on outside of this site. There is cool stuff coming.

I could've sworn there was a site with old map scans on it, or maybe this was for other parks. It had a bunch of brochures also. Not just for CP either, but for many parks.

Anyway, I used to buy a poster size souvenir map every year. Too bad they usually didn't make it through the year. I used to always go down and buy them at the little store in Breakers lobby.

Ahhhhh. Good times.
