Maples Motel?

Just wondering if anybody has stayed at the Maples Motel and what you thought about it.  We need something cheap and we don't care about extras and frills, since we won't be in our room much.  We do want something clean and comfortable and convenient to the park, though.  What do you guys think of this place?

I havent stayed there, but I've driven past it several times on my way to CP in the last 2 years. Honestly, my first impression was that it was a dump. It really looks like an overgrown mobile home. But on a positive note, a guy whose opinion I respect *does* recommend staying there. But personally, I'd rather go for a Comfort/Days Inn or Best Western or something. You can always find *decent* rates on Expedia (or Priceline/Hotwire if your adventureous) especially if you are an AAA or AARP member.

Travelocity has some ratings for some of the hotels in the area. One (I think it was Comfort Inn on US6) said that the hotel smelled like ass. That's the Internet in action!

About ten posts down there's a glowing endorsement of the Maples. Also, in Tim O'Brien's book on coasters he writes he swears by the Maples and wouldn't think of staying anywhere else. I can't comment as I've never tried it out but it does seem that there are some ardent fans out there ...
