Mantis Trains

Haven't they only been running 2 of the mantis trains the past few years? Everytime I go there I see the one train sitting under a cover of some sort. Does anyone know why? Or if they are planning on using it anytime soon?

They consistently stack while running two trains. Adding a third would just mean that guests are stuck on the train waiting to deboard for longer.

Unless they can dispatch the trains faster, adding the third train won't fix anything.

When Mantis runs 3 trains, it stacks which is not a good thing. It actually jams up the process of loading/unloading when they run 3 trains and makes it inefficient to run all 3. That train has been sitting there for at least 10 years.

Oh wow. I never new it has been sitting there that long.

Supposedly, Mantis used to be able to dispatch a train after the other one went on the mid course break run. But that was before seat belts and patient ride hosts. If there were any chance for Mantis to run 3 trains again, the crews would have to lock the stand up positions only once. The ride hosts always have to unlock and re-lock the seats multiple times; so that adds another minute into the interval.

Don't they switch the trains out annually?

I would guess going on 10 years as well; does anybody have a defenitive date?

Kinda pathetic that the reason for the stacking (and subsequent removal of the third train) was due to people not being intelligent enough to understand such complicated direction as 'stand up straight'.

I guess it has been for about ten years.

But I think last year was the first time the third train has not made it back on to the transfer.

A train has been sitting in shrink wrap under the station for as long as I can remember.

They were only running one Mantis train yesterday.. Oh what a bad day to go to Cedar Point.. :(

Yesterday had to be a record for the least amount of people in attendance.

Probably because the weather was horrible, and a day at the park would have been rather pointless.

At least I got 5 re-rides on corkscrew yesterday, because no one was in line.

I'm pretty sure the trains are still rotated at least occasionally (with the one sitting in storage). I know a few years ago they had a problem with one that was continually rolling back. They pulled it and replaced it with the one in storage a few weeks after the park opened for the season.

I'm glad someone brought up this topic? I noticed yesterday when riding Mantis that they were only running one train as well. What is the reason for this and are they planning on putting that second train on?

They were running one train yesterday due to the weather. In order to safely operate in the rain coasters have to go down to one train, otherwise they can't run. I'm sure once the weather gets better they will have the second train on there. I'm pretty sure they had two for opening day.

My guess for only one train running would be due to the low attendence in the park. I wacam looking at the dragster cam yesterday and it didn't look like there were many cars in the lot. I'm pretty sure that if the park was more crowded they would have put the other train on.

Something like this happened with Mean Streak a few years back when I went to CP on a rainy day. The weather was really crappy from about 10am to 12pm. At about 1pm the sun came out and more people came into the park. Surprisingly Mean Streak had a long line...

They were only running one of the trains at the time of the crappy weather. Once the nice weather came and the Mean Streak line grew, they put the other 2 trains onto the track.

I'm sure by the begining of June, if not sooner, we will see both Mantis trains on.

The thing is they didn't have another train on the transfer track. Onewas running and another one was sitting below the ride. The third onewas not around.

Hmm... maybe they didn't want it to get wet. Or maybe they knew that the weather wasn't going to be good and they knew the attendence would be low so they might not have bothered even bringing it out.

Or they weren't ready to be put back on yet because they are running behind...
