Mantis Remarks

I hear a lot about the bad things of Mantis in my two years at this site, but what about the good things? I don't personally count Mantis as one of my favorites (head banging) I do, however like the upside down airtime of the first loop-incredible!

CEDAR POINT YES, SIX FLAGS NO!
I love Mantis.  I find it to be a totally different experience than sit down coasters.  I've been on it when it has been head-killing and times when it's been very smooth.  I think the first loop is awesome with the air time at the top and the other inversions are sweet standing up!
On Saturday, I was on the first train out of the station with regular passengers and the trims were off and all I could say is the ride is much much better with the trims off rather than on.  I truly enjoy Mantis as I do every other ride at Cedar Point.

Mantis has its own little flare for me, I truly enjoy the inclined loop.

Mantis has the best sign for a rollercoaster at Cedar Point, that picture of a Mantis at the entrance of the ride is pretty cool.  It makes the Millenium Force sign look a little lack luster.  If I could, I would carry that Mantis sign on my back to my car so I could take it home.

Remember, enjoy the rides for what they are, if every ride were like Millenium Force than Cedar Point would sure be boring! Variety is the spice of life!!

Mantis is one of my favorite roller coasters at Cedar Point.  I love the force of riding it while standing up.  I also love the slight pressure that it puts on my legs and the feeling of the invesions.  Standing up makes it feel like I'm challenging something instead of just going for a ride.  Plus, the head banging has never bothered me.
Befor this year I HATED Mantis, but I decided to give it another chance, at night and in the front row.  All I can say is WOW, it was an out of control ride and it made me fall in love with Mantis.  I especially like the dip at the top of the hill.  Does anyone else ever notice that sometimes the trains barely make it through the first loop while others go through it with ease?  What is the reason for that?

Trims Breaks. It looked real bad Friday at MM. The trains were mostly empty and there was a little breeze. Still the trims were on! The only reason I rode it is pieces I wanted it to be in a rollback. Once the train got to the top off the loop it could be moving no faster than 5MPH and it got dead silent. The hangtime was incredible and my feet even came off the floor. Sky Kicker, Tony and Co can attest to this too.

When we were walking back when the train was in it's near dead stall at the top of the loop, it was so quiet you could here someone in the train yell "Holy $h!t." Quite funny.

"MF has broken down and still hasn't been fixed, consider kicking Joe out of the park"

I remember that quite well.  What a ride I have never felt so insecure in my life, it just stalled through that first loop.  Incredible!!  I think I'll do it again this week at MM.

"WE HAVE ANOTHER CHOICE PRIZE WINNER"
I've always liked Mantis, but for some reason, this summer it really started to grow on me, and now it is one of my favorite coasters.  The finale is one of the best on any coasters, in my opinion, especially when riding in the back.  Gotta love whipping through all those turns!

Here's to wood in 2002!

Since the addition to the trims, it doesn't go through the loop or diving loop as fast, so it adds air...anyway, you probably already knew that.

I spice up my ride on Mantis by grabbing onto the OTSR handles and pull my feet up like in weight lighting. Then as we head down the other side, I plant my feet and then repeat the action for the diving loop. It adds a new element to the ride, and it makes it that much more exciting. But if you try this, remember to get your feet planted before the train gets to the bottom or you could be in a world of hurt. :)

i like Mantis but all the head banging and i don't think the line moves  like mf because your constantly walking

I totally agree with you Joe E. My friend and I were in the front car on MM with only two othere people on the entire train, the air time was awesome, and my feet were totally off the ground as well. And since the train was so light, it was an extremely smooth ride. I have always loved Mantis, and that was the best ride I've ever had on it. You are right about that sign, Just Coasting, wouldn't it make a *****in' tattoo?
I've always wanted to print up a banner that says "Banshee" and just happen to tape it over the "Mantis" sign at the entracnce.
I liked the sign better when it looked like it was comming out of the bushes at the original entrance!

Yes! Jesus loves even YOU!

I love the way it looks--just a jumble of twisted track.  It's cool the way they incorporated the ride in such a small space.  The ride is fun  :)

I wish they would paint it though.

Aren't they painting it next year?   I am fairly certain, and yeah I think the red has faded really bad.

I love the ride.   It has a great blendof everything.  Airtime, loops, and sharp curves!

I agree about the trims being off.  They were off the majority of the time during Millennium Mania on thursday.  I loved the ride so much that I rode it 12 times in a row with 3 friends.  We were the only 4 people on the train the whole time!  It was really awsome.  My only suggestion to make the ride better for 2002 would be to paint it (which is gonna get done), remove the trims on the first hill or keep them off, and run 3 trains, even if it involves building an unloading station.  To me it seems like there is enough room to build one between the transfer track and the station.  Headbanging has never really been an issue for me.

I like Mantis but I loved it the year it opened. I recall one friend of mine saying "that Mantis is mean". I don't like the trims on the first drop and it seems the midcourse grabs harder then the first year. Why did they add the trim? Were their complaints about the slight pain in your knees on the first drop and out of the first loop? Every time I have been on it since the trims are always on :(
