Welcome to New York City

Personally, I don't see any reason to ride Mantis more than once. Other's feel differently, though. (Painful ride.)

It's not that painful if you stand with your legs positioned properly and the seat isn't crammed into your crotch. Also, if you lean into your harness, your head doesn't get banged around as much.

Nonetheless, I never seem to get it right. ???

I love the ride to death now. The only thing you don't want to do is keep your head back. Lean into the front of the harness and stand like you normally do, there isn't any trick to doing it. It's like any other ride, some people like it, while others don't.

Make it one of your first rides if you do decide to ride it, ever since they started running two trains the lines have been unbearable

I've been saying for years (and on the Manits page on this site) to put your feet entirely back, stand up straight with your knees not bent, and lean into the harness. Yes, it's a little awkward with a bike seat in your crotch, but not overly uncomfortable.

Personally I think it would be a better floorless coaster.
Do you know how forceless it would be as a floorless? the first time I rode it I was barely tall enough to ride and I sat down during the ride. I didn't like it because it was pretty boring. Then that same day I rode it again and stood up and it rocked. Converting it to a floorless would make it even worse.

I want to drive the Zamboni!

Hey CP Jigga you have to ride it. It's a great coaster. I always get banged up more on The Magnum than on Mantis, but I ride both as many times as possible regardless. Personally, I don't lean into the restraints until after the big set of trim breaks halfway through the ride, when things start to really rock and roll. It's my second favorite coaster at the park, after The Force. I would also suggest first car for your first ride. I think it's smoother up there, and the view is awesome!
I never had any pain on mantis until this year. I have ridden it many many times. I am not really sure what caused me to get so banged up this time though...

I fool so feelish...

My advice is be *very* wary of the Mantis when it's cold. The first day my friends were there (we came up from Kansas), it was around 45 degrees most of the day, if I remember correctly. Banging your ears against a harnass when it's that cold... well, you can imagine I'm sure. Plus, the wind made it that much colder. From the first ride on, I couldn't feel most of my face for the day. :o) Anyway, I'm guessing it won't be an issue until the fall, but it was brutal.

Also, it's a little intimidating, but I think it's best to get the harnass pretty snug against your umm... how d'ya do... for guys. I figure it's better to have it there to start than for you to get smashed against it later.

Another suggestion... save Mantis for late in the day if you have any kind of minor leg problems. If you have ANY major leg problems, you might not want to ride it.

I find my ankles and knees get sore after riding it. That is why I don't ride it alot. But it is a great ride.

:)

I also stand with my feet back and lean into the harness and still find this ride more painful every year. Technically you shouldn't have to "alter" the way you ride a coaster to make it more comfortable. If you do, that should tell you something.

What are all you people, old? I'm just kidding! I'm the youth of this country and I can ride Mantis all day with out hurting. Maybe it's because I actually use Jeff's tips on riding (thank you Jeff) but I never get bored or start to hurt. However, if you do start to feel sore, only ride it one more time. :)

I can't say that of the time I've ridden the ride, it has been jerky. It's a smooth ride. The "jerkyness" of the ride is the layout. If you aren't paying attention to what is in front of you...or which way you are turning next...you can't anticipate the ride and counter by turning your body the other direction or whatever the element is. There are some quick turns that throw your feet out to the side from under you.

Bottom line: The front seat is best because it prevents all of I have talked about. I believe the ride is smoother in the front. Also the front allows you to see what element is coming! (unless you don't want to know, sit further in the back of the train) Hope this helped CP_Jigga!

Oh yeah, if there's bugs on your shirt, you had a good ride.

Thank you Jeff for your work to make and run this site!

I follow "Cedar Point's" tip as well, but it doesn't work for me. (I don't really care, seeing that there are a number of other coasters out there to please me just the same.)

I love Mantis. It is a favorite ride of mine and I've seriously never understood why people complain about it. Standing through all of those elements makes me really feel like I'm conquering something instead of just going along for a ride.

...and enjoy the rest of your day at Cedar Point, The Am-aaaa-zement park!

Well...I did break my leg when i was younger...and i did get my knee injured playing football...It kinda hurts when there is like bad weather and stuff....I'm not sure if it could take the mantis without too much pain.

Welcome to New York City

Mantis doesn't ever hurt my legs, but when I get off, my ears are throbbing from my head banging against the uncushioned restraint so much.

Lean into the harness...that will solve that problem.
